you because they will see you as someone who wants to get the hell out and that someone wants to join them. I doubt you’d say anything bad about current player but they can pick up on stuff like that.
I told them flat out I was trying to leave because I was being placed in unethical positions and I wasn't allowing it to compromise my integrity.
I disclosed that in the 3 hour interview and they passed me on.
I didn't discuss any of that with the VP but I feel I didn't emphasize the words we and team like I should have. I might have emphasized the word I on some things and that's a mistake.
Need to come off like a team player. I kind of hinted I hate routine. That probably is not good.

Not to be the bearer of bad news, but it sounds like they're trying to negotiate salary with another candidate and waiting for him to accept, but keeping you on the hook in case that doesn't work out.
This is exactly what is happening. You arent their first choice, but could be their backup plan if they cant agree on the comp package with the first guy.

Sounds like you don't want to be in group a.

Well that's not encouraging in the least.

That's why I hate interviews. The nessesity of using catch words and hitting the proper formalities sucks. Like asking the question "what are the keys to being successful with this company?" Same as every fricking company. Do your job, dont be a dickhead, work hard and overachieve. And I'm going to do it, probably better than anybody you have here. Why do we have to act like this is some fantastic magical company different and FARRRRR better than every other one out there?
Nevertheless we must all play the game and hit the high notes.

No idea why they ask those stupid fricking questions. I could get much more out of a regular conversation with someone and a quick aptitude test

My favorite question I was asked by the VP: “What does this role mean to you?”
I pretty much gave the position description. And was like “That’s pretty much how it was described to me by X”
I don’t exactly understand what the point of that was.
None of the VPs questions made sense or were in a conversational tone.

Its possible the company is just really slow with HR stuff like that.
I was told "you'll find out if you progressed to the next round by X date". They missed that date by 3 weeks each time.
I got hired and am very happy where I am.

On some level, if that’s how they treat talent they are recruiting- it makes me not want to join the actual team.
If a high level position that you’ve committed extensive time interviewing for - a simple “hey we are a little behind, but will update you next week” goes a long way instead of radio silence
I was a finalist against 1 internal candidate recently... initial screening interview was supposed to be 30-45 and ran 90mins midday which is always tough, and then final round was 4+ hours all in making me take a day off to complete (on 2 days notice).... and then a full month later I got the one sentence email turn down after no reply to 2(?) followups.
That it was a candidate they 100% knew and just me from outside and it was handled that poorly made me glad I wasn’t working there.

Yeah, you aren't getting hired

That’s fine but it’s a dumbass question. I’m at the Director level going into a new line of business with them. I only know what the frick is on the job description and what it’s explained to me. frick them if they want more than that.

Is it beneficial for companies to put that much time into interviews? 3 rounds of interviews, the 2nd one being 3 hrs? Multiply by the number of other candidates... Is this a high level position?
I don't get these complex interviewing procedures. This was a while back but someone I know was telling me her husband's current position, at the time, would be moved out of state and he didn't want to move so he was looking for a new job and went on an interview. The first meeting was all day, he sat in on meetings, met with several managers, etc. They called him to go back for another interview and she was talking about how he was thinking it was a lot of time to put into a job he might get.
Why would companies put so many unbillable hours into all of this? I have never worked somewhere where a manager would have all that time to interview all these people.

Every company is different.
I’m interviewing with 4 companies right now and each is wildly different in their approach.
Company A is often considered the best in the business. They called me up. I spoke with the manager. Next day brought me in for 9 interviews. I expect to hear by Tuesday at the latest. The whole process will have been maybe a month from initial application but the interview aspect has been happening for the last 3 Days. They are moving super fast.
I was referred to company B which is a much smaller but still worldwide firm. They were moving extremely quick until I did the first interview and there was somewhat of an odd day of interviews as each side was expecting something else. I was expecting the job to be less..... manual calculations and their job did 100% manual calculations. After that, they fell off for awhile but reached back out two weeks later for round two. Process has been happening since the start of April.
Company C I applied to 6 fricking months ago and they just reached out for the first round of interviews. They are in serious trouble of being too late.
Company D literially only called me up to tell me, “you are being considered.”
And I know that I have some applications that have been “under consideration” for some other firms for months.
I hate job searches and I’m super paranoid I’m going to screw this up.

That's fine but they need to be upfront.
This is all people ask for. I understand they have to do what is in their best interest, but when it comes to someone's job I don't understand why so many HR departments bullshite people.
While I know they don't want to tell a potential new hire certain information because they want them to still have interest in the job, it seems like it can work both ways. Like I mentioned in my above post, I just don't understand some of these processes when it comes to filling open positions.
