Before Katrina, the NOLA MSA had the highest percentage of native population measured in the US.
Don’t know about afterwards.

You mean to tell me that people are breaking down the door to come move to Youngsville?

No, that’s not what the graphic is saying.
The graphic is showing, supposedly, the percentage of people born in the state that still live there.
It is not a “moving to” graphic.

I think a lot of the lower numbers of the New England states are that a family can move an hour away and cross two state lines.

When I moved to Dallas for work after college, I often asked "is ANYONE from here?"
I moved back to Baton Rouge 2 yrs later.
But this graphic definitely proves that nobody moves to Louisiana. Ah well. More swamp, cancer, and murder for us!

People don’t want to move here but locals don’t want to leave because Florida only has a 3 fish limit on trout

There's a ton of "good ole boy" shite in Louisiana.
It's hard to break into careers etc without knowing ppl and shite.
That's a huge part of why Louisiana is so overwhelmingly populated with native born.

Another way to look at this is that Louisiana has a massive segment of uneducated and largely government-dependent residents who cannot and likely do not want to leave.
Anyone with an education and the means to do so leaves Louisiana as soon as possible.

I am really surprised Alaska and Hawaii are so low. You would think those two states would damn near have a wall around them.

I had a young man from south Louisiana apply for work with me in North Texas recently. His qualifications were reasonable. I told him I had worked in Texas with a number of young men from south Louisiana and inevitably their love for south Louisiana had taken them home. He told me he hated it, so I hired him. Time will tell, but it would not surprise me for this guy to head on home at some point.
I am from Lubbock, Texas, and Mac Davis said it about as good as can be said. Despite its faults, I'll probably die there.

Wait. Are you saying moving away is an option?

And a lot of those move back as soon as possible

I would bet 80% of my friends who moved off after college for work have returned home. Most were in Houston, a couple in NYC, some scattered through the country.

It USED to be a great place to live but unfortunately that has deteriorated since the early 90's. "Born & Raised" in La also means it's hard to just leave and walk away from family.

Correct. The higher the percentage. The less desirable it is to move to that state.
