Migration data 2021

quote:

Americans are moving to red states that are relatively more economically vibrant, dynamic, and business-friendly, with lower tax and regulatory burdens, lower energy and housing costs, with more economic and job opportunities, from blue states that are relatively more economically stagnant with higher taxes and more regulations, higher energy and housing costs, and with fewer economic and job opportunities?

There's a ton of "good ole boy" shite in Louisiana.

It's hard to break into careers etc without knowing ppl and shite.

That's a huge part of why Louisiana is so overwhelmingly populated with native born.

This, have an upvote sir.

I think a lot of the lower numbers of the New England states are that a family can move an hour away and cross two state lines.

I have specific thoughts for Vermont and New Hampshire. Even when I was growing up industrial manufacturing was a real option for employment after high school. That changed over the last couple of decades. The other industry that really suffered a collapse was agriculture, specifically farming; sheep and dairy cattle had a much bigger impact on the local population than today. Industrial manufacturing and agriculture are two areas of family involvement. One industry area that have come in and replaced those manufacturing jobs has been tech, and that doesn't really lend itself to generational employment.

Maine, on the other hand, has two agricultural areas that weren't nearly as affected as VT and NH, and are very local to them; fishing (specifically lobster) and potatoes. Commercial fishing is a tough job and I'd suspect is still very much a family thing in Maine. Potato farming is a major industry up in Aroostook County, which is up in that tippy top part of the state and a good four hours from Portland.

Edit- I also forgot about the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and Bath Iron Works. Both of these places have been in Maine since the 1800s and still build or repair ships for the US Navy. Both are decently-sized employers (5,000+ each) of the civilian population that probably has generations of workers there.

Can’t tell if Florida is so low because of illegal immigration, or liberals leaving their shitholes to go create a new one

I live in Northern Virginia now. When you run across someone who grew up here you kind of ask them what the frick happened.

There is zero culture here, no identity and kids go to high schools that weren’t even here three years ago let alone going to a high school that their parents or grand parents went to. Given on one hand it’s great as there are no blue bloods to deal with, everything is new and nice and our tax dollars actually go towards what they’re supposed to go towards (school, roads, infrastructure). But damn it’s boring.

I like the low crime and ability to make more money, but after 12 years up here I’d still move home tomorrow. Just something about Louisiana and the south. It’s line the girlfriend you broke up with that keeps pulling you back in for more. My kids are entrenched in school now so I’m stuck until I retire in 15-17 years. Once they are done with college I will not let the door handle hit my arse on the way out.

I was told long ago it was Vacherie. That like almost 90% of the people raised in Vacherie live there.

I doubt that Louisiana is this high, but if it is, it's due to being too poor to leave, or too dedicated to family.

I see no other reason to stay here.

Go ten or twenty years earlier before the oil and gas companies left. Those very good paying jobs filled some sky scrapers and people had to live somewhere within a commuter distance.

Thanks.
I wasn't native born.
Was in Louisiana for school.
Upon grad I struggled.
Couldn't get good job.

I'd apply with the same company in Louisiana and Texas.
Texas brings me for interview.
Louisiana I don't even get a call.
Happened multiple times.

One company I applied with. I had grad degree in field. 1 year industrial experience.
No interview.
Ended up with same company out of state.
Find out guy they hired had lesser educational credentials.
Zero relevant job experience.
But, he was a managers god son.

Just so many glaring examples of ridiculous nepotism. Lots of people in Louisiana don't even try to hide it.

I work in chemicals.
In Texas very few people are related to others at the same company.
With operators you see it some.
But, at Louisiana sites it's crazy. Everyone seems to be related. Or, somebody "got them on".
