Keep the white liberals in the city with the folks. We don't want them in the country.

There’s a lot of chatter here that leads me to believe a majority of posters on this board are confusing race for socioeconomic status.
Socioeconomic is probably the primary sort group and race is secondary when trying to assign the “culture” concerns.
Example: you don’t have a lot of well-to-do whites yelling “white power” or flying rebel flags in their yard. (And I get they aren’t the same thing)

quote:great post and 100% true. NOLAs black population is overwhelmingly uneducated, unmotivated and indifferent to what a functioning community looks like.
For some reason a bunch of people on here always conflate New Orleans black folks with Atlanta black folks. Atlanta doesn't have the same brain drain as New Orleans.
My in laws have been ill so I’ve spent a ton of time in Hampton VA lately. It’s a black city, no other way to describe it…at just about any bar, restaurant, hotel, or public place white folks are outnumbered. And it’s fine…these are normal everyday people in a functional society doing their thing. New Orleans is not like that, at all

Please quit committing verbal atrocities on this forum by using the word “Hispanics”. These people are LatinX damnit.
I always thought that was funny. They actually do speak Spanish, and not Latin.

Strange, isn't it, how 'economic growth' and 'culture' can't coexist...
I have come to the conclusion that a majority of black people would feel more comfortable in a more black city, even if it is ratchet than in a semi-black city that was safer and less ratchet, ghetto, use whatever term you want.
This isn't a shot at black people either, because I know some white people that will never leave the trailer park because they don't feel at home outside of it.

Maybe? I'm cool with voluntary segregation.
My opinion, though, **strictly** from what I've seen over the years in media, Hollywood, schools, etc.. is that they like imposing themselves into "white places" but do not, at ALL care for whitey in their own spaces.

In Virginia Highlands????? Every public school in the area ranks in the mid 20s in the state for public schools at the grade level...thats in the top 10% of schools in Georgia which is about middle of the pack in the nation as a state....the schools in the highlands would probably be in the top 25% of public schools in the nation.
Instead of looking at the "ranking" which is weighted based on "factors", compare the standardized test scores for those schools as raw data, without the other "factors". They are absolutely not good schools. There are plenty of good private ones in the area though.

Spain took back their land from the Arabs with the Reconquista. Atlanta has the Honkyquista.

Latino as opposed to hispanic is used for all Latin Americans. Brazilians are technically not hispanic.
If you are trying to include all Latin Americans then Latino is the better word.
But don’t go calling your hispanic buddy a Latino

Funny you say that as I was attending an Urban Institute seminar and they project that Orleans Parish will be no longer be a majority African American city by the 2030 census. It was 67% in 2000 and in 2023 it was at 54.3% and the African American community had been steadily dropping 1% per year the last 7 years in a row.
Yeah they’re moving to St. Bernard

Myself and others have been saying this for a while on here, due to said gentrification the last 15-20 years.
Contrary to popular belief on here(and I get it, this is a South Louisiana based board), Atlanta is thriving. Both in town and the metro area. It is a naturally beautiful, vibrant city.

For some reason a bunch of people on here always conflate New Orleans black folks with Atlanta black folks. Atlanta doesn't have the same brain drain as New Orleans. Atlanta is the number one destination for young black professionals in the country. Young black professionals from New Orleans relocate to places like Atlanta for work, which creates the brain drain.
So many black folks from Atlanta aren't actually from the area. Black folks in New Orleans are way more likely to be 3rd or 4th or 8th generation New Orleans. Atlanta still has its hoods, just like any city. But if you go out to some places in south Fulton or Dekalb, you can feel like that John Travolta movie where the white people are poor and the black folks have the nice things.
Good post.
Atlanta has the largest black middle-class of any major city in America and it's been that way for at least 2 generations.
