They are being responsible to the public. They realize they could have it and spread it to others so they wear a mask at the store.
But....they also do measures that will protect themselves such as social distancing and not going places unless they need to.
Restaurants have opened up here this week. Most of my friends who are in the medical field are not in a rush to go out to eat just yet and are gonna wait a bit.

I'm basically a case study in the exact things you aren't supposed to do right now. I touch my face all the time. I have a weird tick where I have to pinch my nose several times a day. I bite my nails like crazy. I can't help it, I'm neurotic af.
All while really only washing my hands while prepping dinner or the obvious one in the shower. I'm out in public around hundreds if not thousands of people every day. I wear a mask as required by virtually every business here but that's it.
I've said it before here, I should have definitely gotten it by now. I either haven't or I got a pussy asymptomatic strain. I did have a fever and a horrible cough for about a week, but this was in January and no one I was with got sick, not even my wife.

Similar - I scratch my face and all of that all the time. I was a bad nail biter before all of this, but I had stopped late last year and been able to continue.
I was also flying internationally every single week between what are now two decently big hot zones up through mid-March. I am quite surprised I didn't get it, or at least didn't get a symptomatic version of it.

Anecdotally that is absolutely the case in the hospital here with the infectious disease doctors giving the least amount of fricks

1000x this.
I’ve worked with at least 5 people who came into the hospital for other issues who later became covids. Same is true for the entire rehab department. Often with significant contact to get them out of bed, ambulate, whatever. We all feel safest when we actually know what’s up and have the gear.

Just curious how they are extrapolating that to 8% of the state. Seems like that’s generous considering that area was the hotspot and these are healthcare workers.

It puts the Infection mortality rate at 1%, higher than expected.
If we just combine Orleans parish (400k) and Jefferson (400k) and assume 10% infection rate, that’s 80,000 infections.
Those parishes combined have 800 deaths.
ETA: didn’t realize this data was statewide. Hopefully we get the Orleans/Jefferson data soon for a more accurate result. If we look at it from a state perspective then the IFR is 0.5%... exactly what many have said for a very long time. It’s worse than the flu, just not worth any of this.
