Depends on the manner in which you plan to use it mostly and how accessible it would be for other parties.

OP you need to make sure you have adequate separate structure coverage, liability, and medical coverage. Otherwise, unless you are conducting business by it, you should be ok but it isn't a bad idea to mention this to your agent as well.

I would look into the inflatable batting cages, so no worries with insurance and when he gets cut from the travel ball team and not picked for his school you can sell it and get some of your money back.

They don't care... your tax assessor may care but the insurance does not.

Just know your policy because under certain circumstances there may be no coverage if a tree falls on it.

How much does the batting cage cost? It may be under your deductible anyway if what you are worried about is damage to the cage itself.

Now, liability is another issue. You may want to discuss this with your agent before constructing.

The batting cage will fall under Cov B of your HO policy. So if there is damage to it from a storm etc, it will be subject to that limit. If anyone gets hurt in it or using it, that will be covered under your liability portion of your policy.

Go with a battling cage. Have waivers ready. Get yourself a real revenue stream as you host baby fights, bum boxing, and mud wrestling.

Please do not assume it will be covered under your liability. Get your agent to check with the company’s underwriters

It is very possible liability coverage could be excluded, and in rare instances some companies may even cancel all together

Call your agent. Have them check whether you will be maintained or canceled if added. Have them check whether liability will be excluded or included on it

This goes double if you're with an independent insurer

This also should not effect your rate unless you specifically ask for an increase in coverage B or liability due to the addition. It would simply fall under your existing coverage (if covered)

Ask your carrier.
OR
Read your policy.

I'd go with carrier.

I would specifically ask. Guidelines may include broad language that leaves certain issues in liability up to the discretion of the company

The issue is going to be the liability side and will depend on who your carrier is. A lot of companies would consider it an unacceptable liability exposure and drop you if you build one. Same thing with things like trampolines. Some companies will drop you, the rest just exclude it from liability coverage

All carriers are different and even each state has different guidelines. Call your agent and ask them, nobody on this board should give u a definitive answer unless they represent your insurance company in your state.

I'm 99.9% positive that there are no issues.

No one gets hurt by a batting cage (swimming pools and trampolines can kill you). Injuries in a batting cage require someone throwing a baseball and/or someone hitting a baseball. Those injuries can be just as frequent without the cage.

Still, the recommended method is an email to your agent. If you don't have an agent, email customer service. That way, the response is saved in writing and you don't have a he-said/she-said.

Have fun with the kid. These are great opportunities to learn more about eachother and build lifelong memories.

Excalibur National won’t let you have one of those tiny toddler trampolines with the handle bar in your yard

I’d venture to say if you called them to ask about a batting cage they may say no

A policy is typically going to include a list of exclusions to coverage/situations where they won’t indemnify or defend you. I would go there first. If you still feel unsure, contact them.

Go ahead. There’s a question in their app that specifically asks about all the usual prohibited liability exposures (trampolines, bicycle and skateboard ramps, diving boards and slides) along with treehouses and batting cages
