Insurance agents are going to drop people with trampolines and pool slides now?

My coworker got a call. As of April 1, no more trampolines allowed in Louisiana. Anyone else hear this?

We had a neighbors trampline cross the road in high winds and did about $800 in damage to my garage trim and door. Luckily I didn't have my car sitting out. Would have been a lot worse.

Insurance Agents are just passing along the guidelines from certain companies.

So is this every company? I can’t find anything on the inter webs about a new law or anything.

This has been a policy for many carriers for several years now.
Some will not insure you if you have certain breeds of dogs (i.e. pit pulls, chows, etc.)

frick a trampoline. Your kids won't use it much and you have to move the thing all over the yard to keep the grass healthy and mow. I made that mistake once.

Recently got a letter from my mortgage lender saying my homeowners policy was not up for renewal..had to call the insurance company to find out that its because we have a trampoline. Insurance didn't even bother to contact us, I had to track them down.

Pools are next.
JJK. Is the thing about trampolines because of injuries when using them or because they turn into projectiles in fairly minor wind?

there was a few companies that wrote the risk but excluded trampolines from coverage. the entire homeowner market is a shite show right now. I don't believe there's any LA law that is being set but the list of companies that may write the exposure could very well be dwindling down to nothing.

If you google "home owners insurance trampoline" you will see that many HO policies do not cover them (and not just in Louisiana).
When I built my pool, my agent said, "no diving board or slide".

Both

I doubt agents drop people, the insurance will just add those things to their standard exclusions if they haven’t already.

We called women of looser morals "trampolines" back in the day.
Kind of like a rebound to get you back in the game after a break-up.

Depends on the company. I highly doubt every company doing business in Louisiana met and conspired against trampolines.
However, most haven’t insured homes with trampolines for years now. This really isn’t anything new.

The dog breed list has grown long. The typical uninsurable breed list is now:
Akitas
Alaskan Malamutes
Any wolf breeds
Chow chows
Doberman pinschers
German shepherds
Great Danes
Pit bulls
Presa Canarios
Rottweilers
Siberian huskies
Staffordshire terriers

Usually it’s a liability concern but many companies will cover trampolines as long as they are in a fenced area.

Damn. We had a trampoline for a long time. It was a blast even though I sprained my ankle on it.
I was really upset when Hurricane Andrew sent it flying into the neighbor's new Lexus.

Both, though probably mostly due to injuries. A kid falls the right way from one at a birthday party and breaks multiple bones. Next thing you know the parents want to sue for $100,000 and will very likely get that or more without ever seeing a courtroom.

lots of companies still want off the risk even though its excluded. its a litigation nightmare them even having to defend their exclusion. its also another means for companies to get off of shite cause nobody wants to right anything anyways right now.
