So do residents of Prairieville have to keep up the graft? Do we have to get an inspection sticker or not??

You still have to get inspection stickers if you don't repost the opt-out statement to your Facebook page.

It remains to be seen.

News reports keep saying the "emissions inspection" will be required in 5 parishes (one being EBR) but I haven't seen any plan or direction on how that will happen by 1/1/27.

While it is true that the emissions inspection is to satisfy a federal requirement, many parts of those requirements have been removed. IE you don't have to build gas stations with vapor recovery nozzles anymore in BR.

I don't know how they are going to separate the emissions inspection from the current sticker and how would the places that used to do them now stay open while only charging $8 for the emissions inspection alone ($3 of which goes to the state).

Even the bill's sponsor, Rep. Larry Bagley of Shreveport, admitted to WBRZ back in May that he didn't know emissions tests would still be required in some parishes.

"I didn't even know there was such a thing until I got this bill together," Bagley said.

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality confirmed in a statement that federal vehicle emissions testing requirements will remain in place for those five parishes. According to the Environmental Protection Agency's website, a state that does not comply with those federal standards could risk heavy fines or having federal funding withheld. Johnson also weighed in on what could happen if the state falls short on emissions compliance.

Louisiana politicians summed up nicely, seems like something you might not want to go on record

Its still about the money. When you renew your vehicle registration you will be charges and extra $6 to get a sticker to put on your windshield with your vin number showing you paid the six dollars. Why doesn't the state save money on producing useless window stickers. If you don't pay $6 your car registration doesn't get renewed.

I scraped mine off the windshield. It was expired by two years anyway.

I was gonna say, are we all taking them off now? I see some stuff saying it ends on 12/31 but no longer enforced, but there seems to be a shite ton of confusion and misinformation.

I think if you live in that 5 parish area, who really knows at this point.

The emissions inspection is a pain in the arse.

I can't see the current shops staying alive at $8 per customer for the emissions inspection alone. I hope they don't make it tied to your registration or turn the emissions inspection into a state run racket where there are only like 2 places in the whole city to get it done.

As I said earlier in the thread, the federal regs are decades old that stated the 5 parish area had high ozone levels and many of those mandates have been rolled back or eliminated.

If we aren't going to keep uninsured or unlicensed drivers off the streets, I'm not sure why we need an emissions inspection.

I'd argue the errant emissions from poorly running passenger vehicles aren't the cause of high cancer rates in the populous.

People driving smoking shitboxes just don't get emissions inspections done.

And people driving around with no license or insurance didn't get inspection stickers before anyway.

Whatever. Enjoy your shitty air quality. It’s one of the many reasons I moved away.

Actually the air quality has gotten better, so much so some of the environmental requirements have been waived or removed over the decades.

Modern cars are not the problem.

Being overweight, poverty, a high percentage of smoking per capita, and poor overall health contribute more than some cars with a check engine light.

Glad you moved away to whatever Utopia you call home.

I’m sure they’re rewriting the federal clean air amendment with your wealth of knowledge on the subject.

Louisiana is not close to the worst in terms of air quality. I’m failing to see your point.
