Just a correction on pricing. Same thing with golf. Golf takes 5 fricking hours and cost 80 bucks. Soon it will cost 40 bucks and take 3.5 hrs.

What I want to know is if the crepe truck in Breck is really that good. Was there a couple weeks ago and the line for that place was unreal.

I've never been skiing and eventually I'll get around to making a ski trip. But for me I will choose Colorado in June-August every time.

Why does it take you 5 hours to play a round of golf?

I pay only 350 for the whole season.

So the skiing industry is pricing itself out of the market as traditional skiers age and ski less, whilst trying to attract a younger crowd that is too debt ridden to afford the high price of skiing? What a shame. I love skiing although I don't get to go as often as I'd like. sad they've priced it out of the reach of most people. Same for Vegas. I was there last December during the NFR and every criticism posted here is dead accurate.
Its not just the ski industry doing this
Every industry is doing this
I work in marketing & advertising, it seems like every damn company and ad agency only wants to target millenials these days for whatever reason
Even advertisers whom millenials make no sense for as a target. Like an RV client we had, wanting to target millenials. Yeah, that's a demographic that loves to go out and buy RVs.
Same with that lumber company during the Super Bowl. Their ad was aimed at millenials, not the actual lumber buying demographic of middle aged white men.

Skiing is the fricking tits but it's hard for me to get up there every year.

I think it's a value. If you buy your passes in advance and don't stay at the most expensive lodges....it's affordable.

That's what I do. I buy the Tahoe Local pass which covers three resorts at Lake Tahoe and five free days at Vail Resorts' places in CO (used in December) and UT.
I go to Tahoe every year which has a ton of motels on the cheap right near the Gondola, and I also have all my own ski gear which has saved me $1000s. The motels all have free wi-fi and come with fridge and microwave (another huge $ saver).
If I get in 12-15 ski days a year, then it breaks down to about $30/day in lift fees.

You aren't going to get a pass for $100 at any of the bigger ski mountains in Colorado during peak season. If you want to ski Vail/Beaver Creek/Breckenridge/Keystone it's right around $200 on the weekends for a day pass.
Keystone was $110/day just 4 weeks ago.

146 in breck last year during peak

Are you talking about the motels in South Lake Tahoe near the heavenly gondola? What do those usually run for a night?

I'm about to go up to vail for a week, used points for a flight, buddy has a place in Avon, and still am going to spend $1,000.
We bring sandwiches, cliff bars and beers on the mountain so we don't have to buy anything on the mountain. When I go in to the lodges I see these massive families and I want to go ask all the parents what they do to afford it because I'm just not seeing it.

Motels can be less than $50/night
Most are 5-10 min walk to Gondola/shops/restaurants/casinos/groceries

Yep. Was thinking of taking the family and by the time you rent everything and pay the lift tickets, deal with the traffic getting there from Denver and the hassle, we said F that

Some people have money and a ski trip is nothing for them.
Some families may save for a few years and then blow it on a nice ski trip. When I see families at ski resorts I usually assume they aren't regularly going on ski trips.

You're right. Every entertainment industry is doing this. Just look at college football or NFL over the past 20 years. They've priced everything so high that only corporations and elite can really do it consistently.
The entertainment industry has to be a bubble ready to burst, right? I just can't see it maintaining the same trajectory over the next 20 years. But what do I know?

Is skiing no longer cool?
These days I find nothing active is still cool. No one I know my age (late twenties) wants to do anything that requires a sweat. When we go out on the lake I bet my balls busted cause I wanna take the motorboat and ski/wakeboard but everyone else wants to just cruise on the pontoon boat. People are just lazy as frick nowadays.
The expense stuff is valid for a family, but frick it's not that expensive for a group of individuals. If you live in a big city (we live in Houston), you can get round trip Denver direct flights for $200 if you plan well. Split a car, split a house, most have our own gear, just buy passes and bring food.
Anyone making the expense excuse without a family to account for is just lazy or poor.
