Growing up on a farm, we had a lot of animals and pets, but we sure as hell didn’t live with them. Indoor pets are disgusting.

Yeah...I'll take a dog that rolls around in possum or raccoon shite in my backyard and them comes strutting into the house to show us how proud he smells all day every day over a cat that cleans itself and is smart enough to shite in a box.

Cats are literally the least disgusting pet I can think of, unless you count fish, and even then those tanks can be high maintenance too.

My wife and I have a cat. We do it by cleaning the box more than once a week.
If I spent a week ****ting in a 2 square foot box, it would be pretty disgusting. Sounds like y'all did zero planning and the cat took dumps where it was supposed to.
Also, vomiting? Come on. I've had a dog with diarrhea let the most foul **** I've smelled loose indoors and I just cleaned it up and didn't go off puking.

Having had both, dogs are much more likely to eat their own shite too.
Cats basically clean themselves all day or sleep, so they are usually very clean. But yes, a litter box can get pretty nasty if not cleaned regularly. Obvious tip: Breathe through your mouth when cleaning it.

Here’s s little tip that might help, next time you leave the cat alone in the house for a week, have more than one litter box available. Three should be sufficient. The cat doesn’t like using a filthy wet litter box any more than you like cleaning it.
