Recently had a buddy of mine, lets call him Ed, tell me he wasn't attracted to women that did not have certain monetary "attributes". Aka drive a nice car, wear expensive clothes, have expensive taste, etc.

Part of me kind of gets this. When you marry a woman your'e marrying her family too and you want to make sure they are good people. But money doesn't guarantee good people and I think he kind've came off as a shallow misguided arse.

What says the OT? Is Ed a genius or a shallow POS?

Ed equating certain possessions with niceness or decency shows that he is a shallow POS.

Pretty shallow to me. I've met lots of awful women that came from money and a lot of great ones that didn't.

there's nothing wrong with sticking with people of your own social class. in fact, same class marriages tend to be more successful.

Just because you have all these things doesn’t mean you’re monetarily smart. If you can’t afford the note on an expensive car, why get it? If you can’t afford to go out in your expensive clothes, why buy em? If you buy an expensive house that is barren because the mortgage is out of this world, why buy the house at all?

It’s possible to live within your means, I’d call that smart. Find a girl that can live within her means, and looks good doing it, and you’ll be happier.

ETA: As my dad always says to me, "It doesn't take a lot of money to have money."

Is Ed looking at whether she can actually afford the nice things or simply running up mountains of debt?

Ed sounds like he wants the woman to exponentially increase his wallet and psuedo social status to me. Smacks of he can't do it alone and needs a lot of help to pull it all off.

If he can pull it off, yes.
