Different sized orifice for sure. I have a Tri fuel Champion and there's controls for Gas and Gasoline. And on the Gas side, there's a lever to be set to either NG or Propane.

I don’t know why more people don’t get tr-fuel generators like the Champion. It’s a fraction of the price, and the big ones can handle AC. If you’re worried about start up wattage, get a soft start for the AC. You can store a bunch of 40 gal propane tanks in case NG has an issue.

Just gave you an upvote because of the hard work you put in for TD on the Covid vax threads from 2020-2022. Saying that, I have no idea what you're trying to say here.

I welcome the power outages as a test of my resilience. Sure, I go find enough gas to keep my food from spoiling. But I can tough this shite out for much longer than the typical outage.
My wife and daughter? Not a chance. But I can ship them off to another more comfortable place.

Don't know, that's what several of the Thibodaux residents claimed suggesting this is not the first hurricane by which their NG standby generators didn't get the fuel source.
Well what the hell are you making this thread for you stupid frick. Starting rumors about shite you dont even know third hand about. fricking retard.

holy shite that sucks

My f-i-l just put in a Generac whole house with a 250 gallon propane tank. Manual says that this will power whole house under normal load for four days. Not sure what Generac considers normal load, as he has an older house and the AC gets a marathon workout from June to mid September.
Problem with propane is that it may be hard to find a dealer willing to service if you only have one appliance running on propane. I have a propane fireplace as the only propane appliance and there were only two companies in my area who were willing to service it. One wanted me to rent a 250 gallon tank and guarantee a complete refill once a year, whether I needed it or not. The other company rented me the 120 gallon tank with no minimum, but I was at the bottom of their list at install and it took two months to get it done.

you spelled the name of the town you live in incorrectly twice in one post. And no, they didn’t “throttle back” the gas supply
otherwise great post I’ll definitely bookmark this for future reading

Residents of Thibodaux being interviewed on air by WBRZ about their standby generators not receiving NG is not a rumor. Residents of Thibodaux having major concerns that this is a pattern is not a rumor, they were interviewed about it. You're not the brightest bulb, are you?
Since you're unhinged and slanging insults, I should probably ask you if you want to place a formal ban bet on this. It seems you're suggesting I pulled this thread out of thin air, and I'm saying that residents of Thibodaux have been interviewed by Baton Rouge's news station. Care to make a formal ban bet?

This was your original post you cockwad.
Nothing about rumors or reports. Pretty matter off fact. But you start a whole thread about it from people to bitch. Throttling back a whole gas system is illogical. Stay out of our business.

Talk about the sum of all fears. You pay $15k plus for these things and have to get them maintained every couple of months in perpetuity, but then when a Cat 1 comes along the city of Thibodeaux throttles back the natural gas supply and you don't have enough juice to run these standby generators

Why would they go back and replace infrastructure, specifically NG lines, so you can run your generator after a storm every 3-5 years? That would be a complete waste of tax payer money.

How hard is it to convert the natural gas to propane.
Smart arse answer inbound.
It is really hard and requires a good bit of energy to do it. Getting the carbons and hydrogens to do what you are asking (moving from CH4 to C3H8) is better left to Mother Nature.

A guy down the road from us ordered a generac, put $7500 down, they never delivered, kept making excuses. Finally he said give me my deposit back and they ghosted him. He filed suit and after a year finally got the deposit back.

No the problem is the age of the gas lines. Yes I guess they are throttled back but they always are throttled back. Because if the lines are rated for let’s say 80 psi the age dictates that we can only run 40 because they’ll blow. But this has been coming for years. And it happened for Ida. It’s why I bought a 17500 generac gas and it runs my whole house. Cost of running is more but the generator only cost $3500 and it works.

Coon from Thibodaux will be in here shortly calling you a retard and to stay out of his town's business lol, but this is precisely the frustration that many residents of Thibodaux are having. I don't blame them for voicing their concern and why augmented infrastructure hasn't been put in place over the last 3 years or so.
Posted on 9/12/24 at 3:31 pm to Tomatocantender
I was just talking to the natural gas guy, too many generators and the lines are too small for the volume of gas that is needed. I fortunately don’t have a standby generator at this time but my neighbors on both sides do and they are currently worthless for generating power! I’m in Thibodaux btw
