We recently went from 2 days a week in the office to 3. (Some staff are in 5 days because their job requires it.)

We've found employees to be more productive at home, but management wants to tout them being in the office "more than 50% of the time".

The only thing that sucks is coordinating schedules and office/cubicle space. They leased too much stuff out and now most people have to share.

This is very similar to my experience. Two days to three starting a little into the new year. Part of the excuse was that other departments in the company were there more often and that some committee of our clients wanted in-person meetings over Zoom meetings.

Other units in the company should be irrelevant, as some jobs (like mine) can easily be done from home while others do require more in-person time. And I can guarantee that any clients who are going on a committee like that are likely not representative of the general population of clients that I work with.

I think part of it has to be that they don't like offices sitting empty. Are a lot of people in your office grumbling about it? I heard when they tried to do something similar to another unit in the company, people threw such a fit that they eventually decided not to go ahead with it.

This should be a nice boon for companies who plan to stick to WFH.

Good for them. It should all work out then for everybody.

WFH people can find another job and stop bitching about going into an office.

And you all can finally shut up about it.

So, it took more than a single person to come up with this?

“Starting 1/6/2025 everyone is expected to be in the office during normal business hours Monday - Friday. We are cancelling our hybrid scheduling for increased engagement and productivity. Please consult your manager with any questions.”

No wonder your company is bringing everyone back into the office. If it takes a team to write up a few sentences of an email, I can only imagine what kind of dicking around WFH people were doing working for this company.

Sounds like you should be doing a better job of tracking things, middle manager.

What percentage of them do you think are working remotely? I'm guessing less than 10%.

Certainly seems like more than 10% complaining

Surprised it took this long to get the ditch diggers back from a work from home schedule.

This always baffles me.

I guess because I've always worked for small companies its extremely obvious when someone is not productive.

Do these people you speak of not have emails to answers, tasks to complete, projects, deadlines?

With all due respect, anyone that doesn't understand how "other units in the company" moral is valued are simply not in charge of enough people to be making a decision.

Total company morale absolutely matters. Its one thing if you are in IT or outside sales or another position rarely visible to the daily operating crews. But the ones that are visible and are never seen, absolutely have a significant impact on the people that are the boots on the ground.

Companies have to be able to look at the entirety of the company and make decisions for each department.

Someone actually needed help drafting that? Are they quadriplegic? 3 sentences with the last one being a rubberstamp that most HR type emails have.

WOW!

I’m in Labor Relations and have been fully remote since 2020. I’ll never go back to an office. It’s completely pointless

Well, my morale is weakened when I see those same people who are in the office more often making significantly higher salaries when doing less important work.

And the company certainly wasn't worried about my morale when instead of a bonus, I got some lame, fairly useless household item instead.

Kinda ironical that "labor relations" don't even deal directly with the laborers, eh?

Why just IT jobs

Typically not leaders, textbook back of the house employee.

I've had the opportunity to work closely with some IT guys and they always get drug into mundane tasks like helping Suzy plug up her Iphone, which is a waste of a true IT professionals time.

In my experience these guys/gals are focused and task driven but get pulled from tasks often when in the office.

If you are a manager of any type you should be in the office and want to be in the office. You cannot lead from your house, just my opinion.

The greatest leaders in history were doers.
