A controversy has erupted at Dartmouth College after a pro-police display was torn down by Black Lives Matter activists, who denounced it for memorializing the “perpetrators” of “state violence.”

In honor of National Police Week (which falls May 15-21), Dartmouth’s College Republicans reserved a bulletin board at the Collis Center and used it to create a display honoring police officers and firemen who have fallen in the line of duty. One part of the display noted that 60 police and 343 firemen were killed in the 9/11 attacks, while another declared over 20,000 police officers have been killed while on-duty in the history of the United States.

At the bottom, the display said in big letters, “BLUE LIVES MATTER.”

But Black Lives Matter did more than just complain, they also took action. The original display was torn down Friday morning, at about 11 a.m, and in its place almost three dozen sheets of paper were used to cover the bulletin board, all of them carrying an identical message: “YOU CANNOT CO-OPT THE MOVEMENT AGAINST STATE VIOLENCE TO MEMORIALIZE THE PERPETRATORS.” At the bottom, each sheet also had the hashtag “#blacklivesmatter” printed on it.

I will never understand protesters. Go on a hike, climb something, see how wonderful the world can be and give yourself some prospective on life. Those signs posted up are not going to change any individuals opinion, and ultimately a waste of time and effort.

It would have been fine had they not written "blue lives matter". That's not only instigating black lives matter, but by the mockery detracts from those they are honoring.

It's not their advocating for their position that gets me. It is this tactic that no one is allowed to express an opinion contrary to theirs that l find so frustrating. Like the fat girl yelling over the conservative speaker a few weeks back. It's as if they are afraid someone speaking an alternative view point will convince everyone of how stupid their stance actually is.

It's Dartmouth. The Ivy League. You know. Where you would go if you applied yourself and were smart.

well assuming you didn't go to an Ivy League school, it's fair to say you didn't apply yourself and are not intelligent.

Ouch. Too close to home.

But the difference is I'm not insulting the intelligence of those that do go there.

Isn't it about time that we ignore these people and their "movement" instead of continuing to give them any type of exposure?

Look you can still be smart on paper - good grades, test well, etc. - and be naive or lack any sort of common sense. A lot of these kids probably grew up in a sheltered bubble and were told how special they were for the last 18-20 years.

Example- that shrieking little harpy from Yale

It lessened the dignity of what they were trying to do.
