Then you must have been one of the extremely very few.
MTV launched in August of 1981, but only to a very few cable outlets.
I did ,however, have MTV, by the time it's first anniversary came up in August of 82.

I remember when MTV played music.
I still go watch old episodes of 120 Minutes on YouTube.

Remote Control is an all time great game show. MTV today is such garbage.

I remember when they first launched. Like, most of my childhood was spent in a world where MTV did not yet exist.

shite. I remember the brief time in history when VH1 was better to watch than MTV.

Reality shows saved that network.

Exactly. I graduated HS in 1979. Right as MTV and ESPN were being born.

Most people on here don’t know what MTV is, or a phone book, or newspaper. Lol

At the time MTV launched, I remember hearing about it on the news and at school. But we lived out in the country and didn’t have cable yet. We had the old-school antenna on a pole outside. Turn it one way and you pick up ABC and NBC, turn it another and you pick up CBS and Public TV, though CBS was never all that clear.

I remember it being the late 70s going to my cousin’s house in Huntsville and they had cable. HBO blew my mind. Totally uncensored and no commercial breaks. I remember we watched Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park…

If you’ve never seen it, be thankful.

My sister worked for Cox cable so she gave my parents a full service converter box.. Including the Playboy channel.. I would come home late at night and catch my dad watching the PB channel but I wouldn't let him know. Every once in awhile they would let full crotch beaver slip by... This was the very early 80's..

I remember getting our first VCR.. It was a Sony Betamax.. That wasn't a popular format so we got a VHS.. I was pretty surprised because my parents didn't blow money on stuff...

Way before road rules, jersey shore, etc…

Real World and Road Rules was before Carson Daly on MTV. Road rules started in 1995. Jersey Shore 2009 little different

And before MTV, we had The Midnight Special and Don Kirschner's Rock Concert.

I hadn't thought about John Pela in forever. Thanks.
