It must be fun to not remember the torrential flooding they had less than two years ago in the plains.
Oklahoma was flooded just as bad as we are in a lot of places. And they didn't have the drainage systems and resources in place to make a dent in it.

I would be concerned about the mental health of many of those affected. For some people this is just too much for them to handle and will cause some to mentally just snap.
Time heals. In the big picture no one's life is "over". Hope and faith will get most people through this tough time and in 10 years they will look at it like a blimp on the radar.

Going to be a tough year for a lot of people...but I'm optimistic about the region's future.

I lost my house in Katrina. I had 4' of water sitting there for 11 days before I could even kick my front door open. It took us 16 mos before we were able to move back in. I'm pretty sure I know EXCATLY what these people are going through.

It's just rough on people. I decided last night I was going to go play golf at Carter Plantation. I just needed a few hours of something normal. They've been sending emails all week about being back open.
I regretted it almost immediately. The course conditions were bad, but I wasn't really worried about that. There are some wrecked homes back there. I'm talking standing on a cart path next to the 6th green and seeing flood debris in the trees 8 feet in the air. There was a home on 16 that had a baby crib sitting on top of a pile of debris with about three dozen stuffed animals sitting in it. So much for normal.

No he doesn't. I don't want any pity from him. I collected my insurance check, SBA loan and a little FRMA money and rebuilt and moved on.

I listed my house in Baton Rouge in July 06. We accepted an offer in the Middle of October for about 8% more than it was worth preKatrina. We purchased in Baton Rouge at about 8% more than the house was worth a year before and had no problem finding quality listings.

quote:In Louisiana, the Road Home project took a while to get cranked up and start writing numerous checks. SBA assistance was about on the same slow schedule. In the Land Mass, the grant system there (thanks to Haley Barbour) got going faster and worked harder and much more efficiently than Louisiana's (typical) byzantine labyrinth.
This is just so different than Katrina. There was money flying into NOLA from almost day one. They couldn't send enough federal dollars.
Possibly we've learnt some lessons over the past decade?
tl/dr: I disagree with your premise. Substantive relief to LA homeowners took a while to happen after Kortina. Hopefully this time is better.

Well put, plus, on top of the flooding, you'll have to consider a less-than-stellar economy. I'm not bullish long-term with br's future.

More people moving to North Texas.
At one time yrs ago there was something close to 10,000 people a month moving here.
" Dallas-Fort Worth gained 144,704 people from July 1, 2014, to July 1, 2015, bringing its population to more than 7.1 million."
