I totally agree with your message. However, you are new to this place and you should really manage your expectations. They cause resentments

It's pretty unpopular, but I agree.
Imo, her degree was likely more an honorary degree. She was dealt a very shitty hand in life, but didn't let that stop her. So why not honor her with a college degree. After all, there's numerous celebrities and whatnot running around with honorary doctorates.
Her books was probably written by someone close to her, but thought Helen's story and name could make the books sell more.

Did you forget about the other 3 senses?
And farting.
But I think yall are seriously underestimating how difficult it would be to be deaf and blind, and how difficult it would be to communicate with a person who was.

The more explanations I see, the funnier it is to just claim the whole thing is a hoax lol

I could see how that would be an advantage. I kept getting distracted by the cleavage on the Elvira pinball machine.

Not gonna lie. I don’t know how she learned the word “water” to or even “waa” to begin the journey without the see/hear senses.
However, truly remarkable (unbelievable) if everything I was taught about her is true.

You should visit Tuscumbia, AL someday.

. We are supposed to believe she was able to not only write, but write 12 books and graduate college?
What else is a blind and deaf person going to do with all their time? No sports, tv, music, etc. Seems exactly like what a person in that situation would do besides suicide.

Roll around in clover field. Try it sometime. Feels amazing.

can see how someone of your apparent mental capacity could reach the conclusion that she could not have done any of that.
If being hesitant to believe a blind and deaf person wrote 12 books and graduated college equates to a small mental capacity then I’ll admit I’m fricking stupid

I want you to plug your ears and cover your eyes.
Now I want to put your fingers all around your mouth as you say “water”. Feel how your teeth move, how your tongue moves, your lips, the way the form. The vibrations.
It’s slow, tedious, unnerving…but when all you have is time, what have you got to lose.

Amazes me that people actually think that she was studying, comprehending, and passing exams in high level math/science/chemistry courses.
To think that a University would even have an army of professors that would have the ability to convey those subjects to a deaf & blind person is ridiculous.
I'm guessing that she was far more functional than a typical deaf & blind person, studied a few college courses taught by specialists, was given an honorary degree, and the entire narrative was embelleshed because it made a great story and served as an inspiration to others.

Best argument I’ve heard
But how did she study?

I am being generous when I say study.
I am guessing that her college experience consisted of her receiving schooling from specialists that helped her to be somewhat functional.

It exists on drive thru ATMs
I read this joke a few years ago and it's kinda stupid.
It's there because blind people are often passengers in the back of taxis(and now Uber/lyft). Before every cab took cards, they'd need to stop at an atm to pay the fare. Now I can't begin to guess how they can tell a $20 from a $5.
But braille at drive thru ATMs makes perfect sense.
