I looked through OPs post history. Looks like he met her 1st day of grad school which would probably mean she is 32-35. Clock is deafening.

You drug her along for 10 years to finally say you don't want to be w/ her. Highly messed up on your part.

The only circumstance is he doesnt want to marry her. All else really isnt important. Thats the decision already reached.

Nah. If he's known for years then that changes things for me. If he's just realizing he doesn't want to marry her, that is a different situation.

Not really. The situation is two strangers arent getting married. Happens all the time.

Strangers, sure. But one of them we "know" from TD, so it's not random strangers.

Also, this is a message board. For discussion. Which is what we're doing here. I realize that's a difficult concept for you (and Sabi apparently) to grasp, but this is sort of what happens when someone posts something like the OP and then peaces the frick out.

Yeah she isn't entilted to the ring at all. I mean...OP can tell her to keep it if HE wants to, but she has no claim to it, nor should she insist on claim to it.

Well no one wants to, but if you have been with someone for 10 years it is going to suck not being with them anymore. Especially right before the holidays when all your friends and family you haven't seen in forever start asking you all about it.

This is all true...but I don't want someone staying with me thru the holidays so it's not uncomfortable. If he doesn't want to be with me, then break it off.

And I have no problem telling people that I'm not talking about something, especially if it's something that's upsetting and I don't want to talk about it.

And I might skip the big events and take a vacation somewhere...find some fling to get me thru the holiday.

yep, then she'll start hitting the gym, dressing nicer, taking better care of herself, not looking like the pig that got dumped anymore, he's doing her a favor

She should take the opportunity to realize it's her fault they are not getting married. She probably let herself go. She's probably no longer fit for marriage.

Yeah, you guys are right. Speculation is much more fun.

She'll be married and pregnant within 2 years.

Fact.

Why is it all his fault? It takes two to tango.

The important part is that as of right now.....here and now....he doesn't want to marry her. Breaking up with her is actually doing both of them a favor. Now they won't have to get divorced in a couple years.

I seriously don't understand all of the downvotes this OP is getting.

SNAP

She's going to try for 4 months tops to find a husband. If she has not, she'll be poking holes in every condom from now on.

you act like you know all 10 of those years were post college. I didnt see where he said that at all. Hell they could have been dating since HS.

What a waste of everyone's youth, if so.

Pretty much. Even if they started dating in HS, that means they are getting on up towards 30 now. That means he's about to tell this girl tonight that 1/3 of her life has been a waste of time and now instead of starting a life with the guy she plans to marry, not to mention she probably plans to be the father of her children, she will be back on the dating scene and starting over from scratch. Furthermore, if they have been dating since HS, this means this girl who is closer to 30 that 20 now has to figure out the whole adult dating scene which to her is something totally foreign to her. This girl is in for a real mind frick tonight.
