She chose to stay. She wasn't powerless over the course of 10 years. This thread is getting ridiculous.

Why. If the relationship is no longer tolerable to him, he's miserable, and they will eventually both be miserable. Only they'll be legally ensnared and likely making two small children miserable at some point.
Sucks that he waited this long. But he's doing the right thing.

Oh I agree with that. And yes, it is fair as a woman to think of it a lil as a waste of time. Granted...I learned a lot of life lessons from that experience and those 9 years of my life and it helped me to not make the same mistakes in future relationships. And...I wouldn't have been in the situation I was in that led me to meeting my now husband. I wouldn't have met my husband at all actually had those events not played out the way they did. So while you can't all think of it as "what a waste of my 20s" you can sure as hell hold some anger over it though and use that in a positive way to improve yourself and never be in that situation again in the future.

Glad you know that I didn't allow her to move into my apartment.

I still say OP should say he isn't ready for marriage (not a lie) and let her end it.

Well many of us are just saying she should just give it back anyways. It shouldn't even come to him asking for it back...she should give it back if she is any woman with class. He can then insist she keep it at that point if he wishes.
Well that's the etiquette of the matter, and I wholly agree. I only offered that he shouldn't be the one to broach the subject (let alone threaten legal action) unless it's some kind of heirloom or otherwise extremely valuable.

Is someone saying men are more likely to break up than women?
lol. Men just start to treat women like shite instead of manning up and breaking up with them

Is that when he said he stopped loving her? I haven't read all 26 pages of the thread. I don't think he's 'stringing her along,' it's a lot trickier of a situation than that.

And what if he still loved her and wanted to be with her then? It's not like he started dating her 10 years ago SOLELY to waste the better years of her life.
Besides, lots of people are marrying later these days, especially professionals.

Not true at all
I've been approached online by one guy with kids and he put must like kids on his profile and I told him I didn't

She obviously thought everything was okay in the relationship if she stayed with him and accepted his proposal...
