Labs are the most bastardized dogs out there. Vary greatly in size, shape, and aptitude. When you find a good pure bred stock, they are hard to beat! I have a British lab from Wild Rose kennels and she is by far the best dog I've ever owned

You can thank american breeders for that. They ignored breed standard in their pursuit of field trial dogs. frick those guys.

Bro. I couldn’t stand my lab the first 1.5 years. She was well trained but good god, she was nuts. She has calmed down drastically and is a much better dog. Still does some things like a puppy but is getting better every day. Hang in there.

Labs for many years have been the most popular dog in the US. So, yeah, that may impact your thinking about them. Most dogs are only as good as their owners.

It only takes having one to disown pretty much all other dog breeds haha.

I had a rottie/german shepherd mix and he was the best dog.
He was much better mannered than our pure bred rotties.

We put our last rottie down a couple months ago. We have a golden retriever puppy now. Female at 3 months. She is a terror, but sweet when she is asleep.

hawk you like their life depends on it

I can confirm this.

When I am tired, I will play like I am sleeping. My GSD will start licking me like crazy and then will jump on top of me.

When she gets Hungary or see me eating she will start putting her paws on me to with get my attention.

It’s pretty amazing how evenly split opinions are on this.

Years ago a good friend of mine and his live-in girlfriend ( now wife- no pics) were renting a home with a fenced-in backyard and a semi-enclosed patio. He gets a German Shepard puppy. As far as i'm concerned the dog had it made. He slept in the patio in his doghouse. Had a heater for the winter. A fan for the summer. The dog was allowed in the house when they were home but slept in the patio.

This was by far the smartest, most intelligent, most loyal dog I've ever been around. Friend had that dog taking a dump and whizing in a certain part of the yard in no time. It was the only dog I've ever seen that would literally try to understand what you were telling it. There is no other way to describe it. It's like it would read your mind. Incredible animal!

When the dog got to be about 1 yr old it started being destructive. Like ripping the astro turf off the patio floor, etc. Friend went talk to a Vet about it and before he could tell the Vet what kind of dog he had the Vet already knew. Vet explains to friend that a lot of German Shepherds suffer from separation anxiety. And that they have to be with the owner or a family member. Or know that they are nearby. If not they lose their shite.

Friend ended up giving the dog away to a recently retired family member.

What and incredible dog- to say the least!!

Not sure why this has so many down votes. It's 100% accurate.

I believe Poodles, Border Collies and German Shepherds are the most intelligent of the Canine world.

Yup, a border collie will out smart the hell out of a GSD. It’s not even close.

I have a weenie dog. She is ten and has been through Ida and the loss of her brother a month after Ida. She is awesome as a guard dog. She loves the grandkids…best pups I have ever had.
