Nothing to slow drivers down there, including the absence of police radars.

Wrecks like this always seem to involve shitty cars

People like to talk about cell phone drivers, women drivers and Millennial drivers but most the problems I see come from the baws in pickup trucks driving like the selfish assholes they are. Riding people's asses, weaving in and out of traffic when there's clearly no ground to gain, blocking intersections and not letting anybody over, blinker or not.

Thankfully westbound never has any problems
Yesterday heading westbound at around 4 pm there was a pickup truck with a couple of mattresses stood upright in the bed loosly tied down. About 5 seconds after I pass him, I look in the rearview just in time to see one fly out of the bed into the left lane. I didn't see any carnage so everyone must have been able to stop, but it could have been a huge frick up.

BTW
Attention Louisiana drivers. Doing the above doesn't make you less of a man nor is it going to make you late for whatever the frick you're trying to do.

Zipper merge PSA billboards need to be placed around Hwy 190 near the ramps onto I-12. The traffic there because people don't know how to merge is mind boggling.

Well yea you're heading westbound at the shittiest of times.
Westbound before 8am is always a breeze

I was. I just started driving 3127 instead. Much safer and more relaxing

It pisses me off that the cops actually pull people over on the bridge and don’t tell them to drive to the end to use a grass shoulder

Drivers on the roads now are the worst I've seen in my life, and I think that trend is continuing so we'll all see a lot worse.
I know it's been said, but CELL PHONES are the biggest factor, IMO. Everytime I get on the road I see someone that is in both lanes, weaving on the shoulder, going 25 in a 45, etc and when i finally get past them they're yapping away on the cell phone or texting. It's a serious problem.
Years ago, we'd assume they were drunk and call the cops. Now, it's just assumed they are on their cell phone and disregarded. You have to have a death wish to drive a motorcycle in this current environment. There needs to eventually going to have to be a law or something that disables cell phones while driving. I know that's over reaching and will probably never happen, and shouldn't ever NEED to happen, but this problem is out of control. I'd love to know the true percentage of accidents directly related to distracted drivers these days.

Should have some type of phone signal block in that area and post signage stating "phones will not operate for the next 10 miles". All of a sudden ZERO accidents.

Probably playing on their phone.

State po-po needs to run this area like they do the Basin bridge.
From time-to-time I have to divert to see family in Napoleonville (sometimes dropping off the dog with my mother and step-father if I am flying out of MSY) before going to New Orleans. It gives me a great reason for 3127 being more convenient.

Reminds me of the motorcycle that passed me on the right and cut back to my lane maybe a foot in front of me on the spillway a few months back. Was coming up to pass a car in the right lane and dude on the bike couldn't wait.
People drive that stretch too aggressive for a road with not much margin for error. Compound that with the people driving slower than the flow of general traffic as well, and you get a bunch of crashes.

Simple answer is phones
Posted on 5/8/19 at 10:14 am to JohnnyBgood
Probably someone driving 60 in the passing lane causing accidents.

As long as you have a call box every quarter mile. Imagine being in a terrible accident and not being able to call 911 for a family member. All while losing precious minutes waiting for someone to drive outside of the dead zone to place a call to 911 for you

This is probably the cause for 90% of the wrecks in that area. I see it almost daily.
Lots of people drive like a normal person going 60 to 65 and do it correctly by staying in the right late.
Then heaven forbid someone goes to pass one of the people and is only going 68 to get around them and the baws that need to go 80 can't stand to wait in the line of traffic that is going around the slower traffic.
This is when the low IQ assholes cut into the right lane and try to haul arse up five car lengths and cut back left on someone front bumper. These nimrods will drive like this the whole way across the spillway.

Every morning there is either a wreck, breakdown, or some other BS that brings traffic to a halt. It’s always east bound, right after passing through LaPlace. Must be the souls of dead workers who built that bridge.
So true. I can't believe how many cars I've seen on fire on the eastbound stretch back when I was in college. Seemed like every week another car was on fire. I've never seen a car on fire anywhere else.
How does a car not in an accident just catch fire and all on that bridge. It is a jinxed bridge.
