Ikea furniture is decent looking junk.

its not junk, but its not nice furniture. its good for functional pieces where you don't want to spend a lot of money.
we have two pieces in our house - the wife's desk and a mobile kitchen island. Both are perfect for around $100.

This. I have several things from Ikea(there is a store 15 minutes away from me in Tempe). Most have held up fairly well. Some not as much and next time I move I'll likely trash them for good. But for the price...it's really not bad at all.
And the meatballs are delicious.

It's mostly made of particle board with crappy thin veneer. It is not quality. It is decent looking, a great value, and serves it's purpose of providing design for those on a budget, but it is still junk in the long run.

Their furniture is mostly crap. It's pretty much more contemporary Rooms2Go.
I have no idea what their cabinets are like. I don't like that style anyways.
Try the meatballs next time you go.

Glad I'm not the only one that likes the meatballs. I've bought their meatballs and sauce before to have at home. With of course....ligonberry jam.

Anyone who thinks it is junk is an idiot.
There are cheap things that are priced appropriately, and very nice items that cost more.

negative. some stuff is cheap; but other things like the kitchen & bathroom cabinets & sinks are legit.
i redid our bathroom with ikea sinks, faucets, cabinets..the whole nine yards.
not only did it cost almost nothing, but it installed very easily for someone with virtually no skills (me) and looks freaking fantastic.

Is that it? That is one odd bathroom. Not welcoming at all.

Just went to his website. Awesome idea for a business.
Did he get a degree in Architecture or furniture design?
He is an architect. Designed the home next to me, I got to know him through that.
He is getting written up in some magazines but it is not translating to sales, yet.
We are getting one of his desks. He was going to use our house for a photo shoot for the product but ended up using his

no, sorrry. just a generic catalog shot of the type of bathroom cabinetry ikea offers. very modern & good quality.
like someone said earlier..very nice dampening soft-close hinges on drawers & stuff.
eta i should say ikea has some shite stuff and some really nice stuff. the good thing is you can walk around the store and put your hands on everything and decide for yourself which is which.
its easy to tell the two types apart.
assembly is ridiculuosly easy..pics only..i mean..i'm not a plumber and i installed a bathroom vanity from there.

I'm very into architecture and well designed furniture. If his business starts to succeed, would he be willing to take investor money?
Posted on 10/29/14 at 5:04 pm to mizzoukills
I'm sure he would. We are kicking around the idea of talking to him about it as well.
He was trying to get my wife to work for him, I'd consider quitting my job to get involved with it

Exactly. It's not something you're going to pass down to your kids, but it fills a niche between Target quality furniture and designer furniture. At my last job everything in the office was Ikea and most of it held up pretty well and looked halfway decent for the price.
