My mom really loved their music. She was also a big Neil Diamond fan.

wasn't that how Micky Gilley got his big break?

Could have been. He was a pretty smart cat. Pre-MTV, becoming an institution in a tourist town like Myrtle Beach spread your name across the country. When the records hit the radio, people felt like they knew them. Branson is probably the destination these days if it even matters. Winners and losers are picked in Nashville now.

I grew up with their music. I took so much shite from other kids in the 80's cause I listed to country. I'd say "my home's in Harlan County" while singing this song. Then years later I end up moving to Alabama.

My Home's in Alabama 1980

Related is one thing.
Inbred is another.
Plus, they're from Alabama.

The fiddle is used in a lot in Texas songs, Cotton eyed Joe and others. LOUISIANA MAN is a song that a fiddle is a necessary but the steel guitar is not used.

Alabama and Texas are pretty similar. I don’t see the problem…

I grew up in a dry county in Alabama in a Christian country home where drinking was forbidden. Only thing is I heard about the barrooms across the Florida line

What a great song

Correct me if I am wrong (I trust that the OT will) but there is no fiddle in that song. Right?

Country music didn't originally have a steel guitar. The steel guitar came from Hawaii.
