Lafayette: 38% (reason why is there are several Lafayette's in the US)

Alexandria & Monroe: 14%

Bro there are far more Alexandria's and probably Monroe's than Lafayette's

More people have heard of Ruston than Houma and Lake Charles just because of sports fandoms and LaTech.

But i think Louisiana is a 4 city listed on the big map state. Nola, BR, Lafayette, and Shreveport. So people know those.

however what you are underestimating is the intellegence of most Americans (especially young ones) these days. Have you seen those street interviews???? You would be shocked how many people be like "yeah ive heard of New Orleans....what state that in?"

When I was a wee tot in MS, Baton Rouge was this distant place in the Far West, where had once dwelt a mythic figure from days of yore named Pistol Pete

Can't tell you how many times I've heard that over the decades when someone asks me where I'm from.

Them - "so where you from?"

Me - "Kentwood"

Them - "that's where Brittney Spears is from"

Me - "yeah, I know"

Embarrassed to not have known they originated from the great town of Ruston. Blessings be upon you for delivering this knowledge to Oldmanbeasley.

I don't know, but I can guarantee at least 99% won't know how to pronounce Iowa, Louisiana.

Lake Charles and Houma too high IMO. It's a big country.

Thibodaux would have a little more name recognition due to Nicholls and athletics.

Also, not sure if Cut Off or Larose would register with big sports names like Bobby Hebert and Coach O.

Monroe too low… believe it or not a good bit of the Black people you run into California (particularly LA and Oakland) families originally from that area… same thing in Chicago

Back in the day it was common in the summer to see license plates from Cali, Michigan and Illinois. People visiting the folks back home.

Shreveport is well known because of Barksdale. Everybody who's served in the Air Force has been stationed there or knows someone who was. Ditto Leesville/Deridder and Ft Polk or whatever it is now.

Natchitoches, Steel Magnolias and meat pies.

Monroe, Duck Dynasty.

Ferriday, Swaggart, Lewis and Gilley.

You'd be surprised at how many people have heard of Winnfield.

Thanks to Duck Dynasty a lot of people in the US and abroad know Monroe, or at least West Monroe. I would put it as the third most well known behind NOLA and BR.

There used to be Yats who viewed Laplace as The North and BR as Canada.

I don't know how many of those are left now

Fun fact: Ellick was named after Alexander Fulton, a leader of the Whiskey Rebellion who fled to Spanish Louisiana and set up a trading post where his namesake city now stands.

Pierre Part, La. just from people watching "Swamp People" and seeing Troy Landry and company killing alligators for the last dozen or so years.
