My dad, who was originally from Texas (a no state income tax state), always said this.

I retired at 51 as a Floridian. Took a year off and got another career going in Florida.

I think I’ll buy an RV when I hang it up again. Keep my house in Florida.

AL property tax is just absurdly low.

LA's aren't bad but if you live in a Democrat stronghold city like Nola or BR they are getting worse. Planning my exit strategy from being ruled over by these morons.

The Texas Hill country is where I would move too. I’ve hunted there my whole life I love the area. It’s quiet and has some pretty land.

The stated value of my home for the purposes of taxes is laughably low.

I like Texas but the property taxes make it hard to retire here.

When the government needs more money they'll just increase your appraised value. Generally no vote needed. I'd rather pay a state sales tax and no other taxes, even if meant they were 15%. At least people would get to see what they were paying.

If you think you own it try not paying property taxes for a few years. You don't own anything. You are leasing it from the government.

I don't disagree, but you seem to keep trying to imply they can value your home at anything they want, which just isn't true.

Probably somewhere like Amelia Island in Florida. Far enough north for cooler winters (compared to most of Florida). Close enough to a big city, but far enough away to avoid jackasses. Either there, or somewhere outside of Knoxville near the mountains, but away from Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge crowds.

Anyone who says Texas is probably the type who never left Louisiana until they moved to Texas, and now thinks Texas is the “end all be all”.

South Louisiana.

South carolina coast.

Southeast Asia.

Why? The commonalities in food, culture, weather.

You can dispute it for sure but what percentage of people do you think actually do that? It's a backdoor tax increase for the most part.

I'd sell my house tomorrow for what the government says it's worth and move into an extended stay hotel and figure it out from there

Swiss Alps... I'd buy an affordable castle nearby to a mountain for skiing and live out my days on the slopes.

Myrtle Beach or Charleston? 42 yo retirement, probably Military, and couldn’t afford Charleston or Hilton Head.

Do I have a wife and kids? What kind of cash flow am I looking at? That’s a very broad question.
