The 3rd largest river in the world is in their back yard, and it aint' running out of water any time soon.
IIRC they're using ground water. Richland Parish isn't adjacent to the Mississippi. Unlike many other states, Louisiana has neglected to develop a state water policy. I suspect that's one of the big reasons for these projects to locate here. It'll be all fun and games until the aquifers dry up. By that time AI probably wont need these sites any more, but the farmers and local communities wont have any water.

The hotels near Thomas road are packed with the trucks. All those eating estsblishments nearby are enjoying the truck drivers coming in.

About 2 weeks ago I counted twelve new dump trucks drive by us in Monroe. Took me a minute to figure it out. All headed east down hwy 80.

Hwy 80 borders the northern section. Its not in good shape, but I expect they will make some improvements over the next year. They recently redid about 3 miles just outside of Monroe. Of course, I-20 is the main road and they are building a new entrance and exit there.

Though it is amazing the size, there isn't much to see. You see a lot of dump trucks, excavators , cranes at a distance, maybe a quarter of a mile.

Ground water my boy. That's the key issue, same as Exxon and GP here in Baton Rouge. Those 2 plants use more water a day than the 450,000 residents of Baton Rouge proper. These data centers will probably dwarf those numbers. They don't want to have to deal with pumping, filtering and cooling river water when they can pump it out the ground for $1 / 10,000 gallons.
There's been a board member from Exxon on the Capital Area Groundwater Commision for 50 years running for a reason....and its not to do what's best for the citizens.

That’s cool.
Reminds me of what I thought when I went down to Venice early last year and the LNG plant was in heavy construction. They build a wall around that whole damn city to keep out flood waters. Freaking massive amount of workers and equipment.
And it seemed like travel trailers were parked on everyone’s property almost all the way down to Venice.

Please. I doubt they’ll know what to do with generational wealth in Richland Parish.

They won't. But if they blow every penny it benefits the economy.

This is true. But the cost of electricty in that small town, is still going to go up.
How? Do you even know?
Posted on 10/2/25 at 4:16 pm to Captain Rumbeard
How many people will this employ? Will NELA be a big business hub? Can we expect an NBA team there in 20 years?
Posted on 10/2/25 at 4:17 pm to Captain Rumbeard
Imagine approving a giant data center that is going to use more electricity and water than the whole town combined to hire like 100 people mostly janitorial staff.
Not even including the massive noise pollution it will cause

So what are the negatives other than the noise you mentioned?

Ground water my boy.
Didn’t realize that.
Well that’s stupid.
Almost as stupid as building a site that has minimal available ground water like Elon did building the starlink site near Austin. Place is in the middle of nothing and they had a ton of issues designing cooling systems b/c of the lack of water.

There’s a 2700 acre lake right down the road baw
