If you had to disappear, how would you do it?

Spin off from the Garrett Ward thread.
Let's use his situation as a baseline to set parameters: He killed a guy in 2018 and is just now set to be sentenced, likely for 30 years or so.
So, he has had several years to plan an escape. He likely has an ankle monitor, so he would have to cut that and disappear quickly after that. It's a high profile case with a surety bond of $800,000 so he would have highly motivated bounty hunters AND law enforcement looking for him.
First off, any illusions of escaping and living the life of luxury on some island are pure fantasy. You would likely be escaping to a third world country with some money you scraped together, but would be looking at a very meager existence, likely working on the fringes and surviving.
So how would you do it?

Same way it was done in the movie Mud. Get an abandoned boat outta the swamp, get it running, and sail off to South America. Belize, probably (no extradition treaty).

At a bare minimum, I'd think you'd have to have plenty of cash or assistance in getting some periodically. Move to only burner phones if any phone at all. Disguise your look and have an alternate identity with documents to back it up. And use a vehicle that can't be traced back to you.

So you cut your hair, change your name, and find some third world country to live in. Keep a low profile, marry a local, become an asset.
It’s a big world, and I doubt he would have been that valuable.
Disappear to some former Soviet bloc country, learn the language and get in with some unscrupulous types
