Had a granddaughter born in February, lost my mom in June. It's an emotional rollercoaster.
But I do get to see the new granddaughter now..
Sorry for your loss, I lost my mom in 2007 from way too early ALZ that runs in her family. Still think of her every day. Great news on your granddaughter.

The one thing that makes me really question buying a house in the Boise area is that from what I read homeowners can have their real estate taxes automatically raised 3% a year, which is ludicrous, and has a very minimal exemption level. License to steal by the government. Are you familiar with this?
Yeah. It's a pretty big point of contention right now. Mayor McLean is pushing for, I wanna say, a 0% increase this year and looking at it as a good pr move because there is a tax increase every single year, and under Bieter's term city council took the max for almost 2 decades.

Thanks for your response. That is a bit crazy IMO, why don't they use other tax revenue opps? Saw the ratio of property tax has shifted significantly from commercial RE to residential the last 8 years or so, might be looking elsewhere in ID or other if it continues. Purchase cost is not much different than where I am in ATL but property tax scenario is very different.

I really like Katabatic Brewery and Livingston is just a good town.

I don’t own a kayak and so I don’t know the rivers like that.
I would say the Gallatin is much better than the Snake though. Comparing Jackson to Bozeman.
The river is narrower, speeds are higher, and there are more rocks that produce interesting rapids.

I lived in Billings, Montana for 3 years and it was amazing. The best part was being 3 hrs away from Yellowstone Park.

Probably Montana, but any would get you away from the white suppression.

There were BLM protests in Jackson and in Bozeman.
I even saw one, they looked like high school students, in Salt Lake City.
Life is simpler out here though, it’s clean, and communities are healthier.

For hunting, I’d rank them
Wyoming - Montana tie
Then Idaho
You can easily kill an elk each year in Wyoming. Cow tags are easy to get. Outstanding antelope hunting.
All three states have world class fly fishing.

I moved to Bozeman 2 months ago and I think I’m here to stay. Absolutely amazing here

Honestly, I'm not sure. If I was a homeowner I think I'd be a bit more vigilant in trying to figure out the reasoning behind it, but we rent, and even when we can afford to own it won't be here. Don't get me wrong, it's a great place to be, but I need more space than what's available in Boise.
I'm not sure the property tax situation in Idaho Falls, but that's a smaller, less bustling city than Boise with Yellowstone right in it's backyard. I also think it's growing, albeit not at the same rate as Boise. My wife and I have thought about taking a weekend trip to hang out there sometime in the future.
