I was a teen during the 80's. My brother and sister were slot older then me. My brother would have to watch me and would take me to concerts during the 70's. So I got a great dose of great music for two decades. I just can't get into today's music. Led Zeppelin, Stevie Nicks, Guns and roses, Metallica, and on and on.

1957, I would have gone to college in engineering, graduate in time to work in the space program from Mercury possibly through the Shuttle program. During the mid 70s technology turned to ring software centered, and I hated al of it.

Drugs were banned in 1914 so pre then is a good possibility.

The 20's would be fun, machine guns and living with the last great president.

Honestly, at 18 you usually only have one thing on your mind, and no matter what people say, women have been easy since the beginning of time.

I once knew a guy who was 18 in the late '60s, and he put it this way: getting into the girl's pants the first time was like a long term military campaign. They didn't just give it up. It took a lot of convincing. (However, once you'd gotten in, she became hooked and wanted it all the time.)

Today it's no big deal to get laid on the first date or even a Tinder hookup. That's the difference.

The mid to late 90’s was a fantastic time to grow up in. Gas was cheap, money was everywhere, no social media, cell phones weren’t common so you could still sneak out without everyone knowing where you were and what the hell you were doing. I loved my childhood and especially high school years. I wouldn’t trade them for any time.

I was born in '78, but I've always felt like a child of the 80s. If I got to choose I would take 1968 to be born, because the 70s as a young kid with zero supervision (basically the same as the 80s was for me) but being in high school and college through the best of the 80s would be awesome. Also I might be retiring about now.

I would've loved to have turned 18 in the mid-70s. Late enough to avoid the Civil Rights movement and Vietnam but early enough to have truly enjoyed the amazing music in the 70s and 80s.
I turned 18 in 1977. The two events you want to avoid were unavoidable for me. We only had one TV until the 70's. My parents watched the local and the national news every night. Everyone did. There were still only four or five TV stations available to me until the mid 80's. My parents never had cable before I left for college. I think the 3 network stations all ran news at the same time.

You'd better believe I was there watching. I remember the assassinations of MLK, and the Kennedy's, more from TV, but saw live Civil Rights protests in Natchez a couple of times. We had to quit going to the movie theater in downtown because the protests blocked streets. Every night CBS gave the Kill Count for both sides during Vietnam.

Watergate was a huge deal for people my age too.

Sorry to have to tell you, but what most people think of as 80's music was not that good. Not saying there wasn't any good music then. There was plenty of good Rock music, but some of that New Wave stuff was just terrible.

I always felt like I would have thrived in the era of westward expansion. Probably would have been shot dead in a bar, but feel like that was best chance for the history books.

One of the reasons Ted Turner became a tycoon was he realized a part of the TV audience will try to avoid the news at all costs. So when the network stations were airing their newscasts, he'd program Star Trek and Andy Griffith reruns. This made him enough money he put his station on satellite and his empire was born

Of all the music of the period you knock new wave? A lot of shitty music during that period -- hair metal, '70s dinosaurs, Yacht Rock -- so no need to dis NW (unless you're talking about synth acts, in which case you have a point)

Give me 18 in 1955. That way I could get Lorraine McFly's fine arse in the back of my Studebaker.
