The percentage of being fat may not be much higher in the south, but it sure seems the percentage of true complete land whales is waaay higher in the south

Also OP makes a good point. We live in such a connected world now the unique cultures American states once had will slowly fade

Alright let me apologize for my fellow northerner, bless his heart. That said I think those of us west of Pennsylvania are far closer to southerners than true Yankees in the NE. I met my best friend standing outside of our suite (RIP Suttle) as we laughed at the NY yankee's accent and attitude. The kid tried but just never stood a chance of acclimating. I've lived in WI, IL, IN, MN, MS, and FL in my lifetime. Hell is Illinois north of I-80. South of that and Southern Indiana has the same laid back attitude. My born & raised state of WI and MN are very friendly... opposite NY. Florida crammed all of that into one. Northern Orlando had a ton of rednecks, then you had all the NY born Puerto Ricans who infused their BS into the large community of Haitians and Hurricane refugees Caribbean shitholes, very few polite southerners, and the beginning of SHWers taking over. (Despite being on the threatening end of a heated verbal assault I was the one who got reprimanded because she was offended that I joked I was like Rosa Parks...I was at the back of the plane while her randomly picked arse was in first class all the way from Orlando to Silicon Valley.) Orlando is for anyone yet no one. The best thing was the fresh cigars and lounges.

Starkville was really good to me. Lifelong friends (who replaced many childhood friends) and quite frankly are much better. I lucked out with administration who bent over backwards to help solve in a few situations my first year. Of colleges I've been around State runs laps around them.

In the late 90s the scenery was still good with a few exceptions...far better than Wisconsin heifers. My MIL is from TN and SFIL from PR. Between my wife learning that fattening southern style cooking/food and her picking up on his Hispanic fare my waist never stood a chance past our 10th anniversary. If only she had also been taught to properly take care of me like a good southern wife.

I grew up in Bozeman, MT. Coming to LSU was a bit of a culture shock. My first football game was the year after the 2003 championship. I remember people starting to set up tailgates on Thursday that game. I was lucky enough to find season tickets from some foreign kid who was selling his. The first time in the stadium, it blew my mind I could fit my whole hometown in the stadium about three times. LSU is a really cool place to go to school.

OP, please define north and south in the context of your post. What north do you speak of? Big Ten school area? Boston? Upstate NY?

No joke. The RV setups on Thursday afternoons threw me for a loop at first. Tailgating down south even beats tailgating in Chicago and Green Bay!

AFA region, I think the southern view of the north aligns with the NE and not traditional Big 10 country.

Nothing in the country quite like big time SEC football. It's certainly unique.

The loophole in LA didn't change until 94 or 95.

Probably because it’s cold AF starting in September.

Source: grew up in MI & moved here at 19. I’d never move back up there.
