bullshite. If I drive 100mph, and you drive 65, I’ll be home sitting in my driveway for quite some time while you continue to burn gas. Common sense.

What if you are driving with the windows down? I'll get there before you. Its air-o-dynamics.

I've done this experiment.

Trust me, driving slower saves gas.

I used to make regular trips from Charleston to ATL.

I always filled up at the same station before leaving Charleston.

The gas light always came on at the hwy 441 exit in GA where I would stop and refuel.

I always hauled arse.

Until one day... it was pouring rain for the entire drive. I couldn't go faster than 65 because I either couldn't see or traffic was too slow.

I got to my exit where I normally refuel, and still had a quarter tank. I made it all the way to ATL on that same tank of gas.

Car was a 3.4 L V6.

GOAT thread.

The humble "oh yeah" when his dumbass finally understood why he was a dumbass on page 11 was great.

deep, I don’t know how to tell you this... but you’re wrong. Think about all that time you wouldn’t be driving if you were going faster.

60 mins in an hour / 80 MPH =6/8. simplified to 3/4.

3/4 * 60 = 45 mins.

I really don't understand how people can't do basic math

They both suck at math.

Blonde: “It’s 80 miles PER HOUR.”
Brunette: “Do I need to like DIVIDE by something?”
Blonde: “Uh, no.”

Well, that is in fact false as you are dividing 80 Miles by 1 hour.

Actually you're dividing 80 miles by 80 miles per hour to get the answer of 1 hour.

He is talking about saving fuel, not saving time. Is saving $20 of gas worth vs. worth the extra time it took to get there. Depends I guess.

The one dude sitting in his driveway waiting on the other dude is classic though. Got to hurry up and wait!

So, there was a dude in my high school that rarely ever drove over 40mph. We were always teasing his arse. One day he finally told us why. He said that he was doing it to put less miles on his car. We could not get him to comprehend that the mileage was the same no matter how fast or slow he drove. He told us to frick ourselves and drove away at walking speed.

What don't y'all understand about the fuel mileage question? Fuel mileage is measured in miles traveled per gallon. It's a measure of efficiency. Time doesn't factor in yet y'all can't get time out of your mind. The amount of time it takes to reach the destination isn't a factor.

For some reason, many of you are trying to include time as a factor in the efficiency of arriving at your destination. In that case you would be balancing the cost benefit of the amount of gas burned versus the amount of time it takes you to get to your destination given a specific distance traveled.

Look at it backwards. If you have to travel 30 miles and your car gets 30 mpg at 50 mph and it gets 15 mpg at 100 mph then if you traveled that 30 miles at 50 miles per hour you will have completed the 30 mile trip and burned half as much gas. That's it. That's the end of the experiment. Going slower was more FUEL efficient. Many of you keep taking it the next step and saying, "yeah but you got there half as fast" . Of course. That's obvious. But that's not the question. If you're going slower to save fuel it's a given that you're trading your arrival time for the cost of fuel.

If I'm taking a road trip and I value the cost of gas over the value of arriving quickly then I'm going to travel slower to burn less fuel to arrive at my destination knowing that it's going to take me longer. That's the trade-off.

I'm assuming here that y'all aren't trolling. It's hard to tell via electronic communications. If y'all are trolling, carry on.
