Somewhere around Taos. I would say Jackson Hole, but $500k wouldn't buy you a cardboard box to live in there.

Somewhere drivable in the Gulf. Probably 30A in an underdeveloped area a few blocks from the beach.

ETA:

If I can't make income on it and only I can use it, I sure as shite am not paying to fly there all the time.

IRL you could certainly rent it out. When I made the OP I didn't want investment potential to be a consideration.

either in the Outer Banks a block from the beach

or in the blue ridge mountains

either way would have to be within 4 hour drive so I could spend many long weekends there
