Fuel (Gas, Jet Fuel, Propane, etc...) I understand the process being that I work in the Oil/Gas industry.

The real money in paperclips went to the guy who figured out how to cheaply mass-produce them. That requires machinery that could take a thin wire and bend it just so. Keep in mind no computers were involved, it was all mechanical.
The paperclip itself wasn't really all that.
