My Dad rode in Zulu back in the day. They dressed him up in black face with an afro wig, and the costume of the float was eskimos, so they then dressed him up as an eskimo. He was a white guy in black face dressed up as an eskimo. Extra offensive, hitting on two cultures in a crude way.

Why is the entire concept of the Krewe of Zulu not considered racist?
There are people who are taken to task for much less.
I would be fired if I brought any part of that into the workplace.

A friend of mine was King Zulu 2 years ago. The party is a friggin riot, everybody has a good time and when you ride no one ....NO ONE cares if you are white guy in black face....you kinda have to be, it's part of the rules.

I'm glad it's not. It's fun, local, unique, and the fact that people here aren't up in arms is a testament to the fact that we are not a bunch of fing pussies like the perpetually aggrieved SJWs.

Knowing Mardi Gras history, here, helps a great deal. Knowing cultural history and this entire idea of 40-50 year-old "thought crimes" comes into play as well.
Judging long-past actions by current political correctness criteria should be criminal. Although, I confess to finding it just sweet and funny, that those who have encouraged the entire idea of political correctness now being gored by their own ox.
How did New Orleans handle racial injustice a century ago? Well, the Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club decided to do so with humor and satire, through the framework of Mardi Gras which is and should be almost entirely satirical to begin with. So they spoofed Rex. And it worked.
