There is always the slim possibility that all of humanity would pull together to fight off the common enemy, but nah, that shite only would happen in the movies. real life humans are evil selfish bastards and would go berserk if news like that was real.

Any alien species capable of physically reaching us before we even know if their existence would be so far ahead of us from a technology perspective that they might as well be magic. We would get utterly obliterated if they wanted to do us harm.

IMO if the aliens are smart enough to get here then they have likely advanced past the stage of just roaming the universe looking for some strange.

Yeah I think I read that all you would have to do to completely wipe out a planet is send something the size of a car towards a planet at near light speed and the entire planet basically turns into an uninhabitable molten wasteland. It would take something traveling that fast to reach us in any reasonable time frame even from the closest stars to us.

I think it was black space guy that said if aliens from another planet ever got to earth they would likely be so far advanced that they could prevent us from ever knowing about it. They might not even recognize us as intelligent life.
iirc it was Steven Hawking (RIP) that said there is something like around a 1% difference in between from humans and chimps. Now imagine aliens coming here and that 1% being the other way. The greatest minds that civilization has ever known would be like the finger painting of a kindergartener on the aliens refrigerator.

I would quit my job and enjoy my life for the next 4 years. Should have enough money regardless however it works out, but would get a bit more risky for the sake of enjoyment.

I see where youre coming from but this would be under the presumption that intelligence brought them to our planet rather than cosmic circumstance. If a wormhole opened up near our planet were capable of reaching and traveling thru its possible that could happen to another species similar enough to ours intelligence wise. There's plenty of fauna on our planet to imagine an evolved version of one of our animals reaching our level.
Would be real fricked up if they were cows, chickens, or pigs for instance. They get here, see a menu, and start waging a holy war on the concentration camps (grocery stores, farms etc)

Any aliens that might arrive in our solar system or on earth would not be biological. They would be machine intelligence created on their home planet.
They would most likely be in our vacinity to explore the status of evolution in our solar system. They could also use the resources they find on our planets to replenish or build more spacraft before heading off to other star systems.
They would most likely ignore us because we’re still primitive, both biologically and technologically. They might document our presence and leave a monitoring machine to track our progress.

It would validate the hypothesis of other intelligent life in the galaxy. Intergalactic travel still seems too improbable to even consider.

Well we are not going to know. Even if the Feds knew, we wouldn’t be privy to that info.
