From Pink Floyd "If you negotiate the minefield in the drive
And beat the dogs and cheat the cold electronic eyes
And if you make it past the shotgun in the hall"

If you can get through that... you're a bad arse.
I still have a 40 and a Mossberg under the bed.

If Someone Breaks In Your House, You Kill Them Right?

True story: Years ago the former district attorney for East Baton Rouge Parish gave a speech at a business luncheon I was attending.

During the Q & A period, someone asked him about the law regarding shooting an intruder.

He explained that the law gives the presumption of mortal danger to a homeowner whenever someone breaks into his house so it is considered justifiable to shoot to kill.

He went on to explain that if the homeowner shoots someone who is trying to break into the house before they actually get into the house, then the homeowner can be charged with ??? degree homicide.

So, he said, if you shoot someone who is trying to break into your house but they aren't actually in your house yet, before you call the police drag them into your house and shoot them again there.

Agreed. No kids, makes it easier though.

With kids, you're forced to confront, basically.

What if the homeowner knows the intruder, and can identify them? What happens in a case like that?

well the risk/reward is important

if you shoot and they die, you risk losing everything. you risk a lawsuit, murder charge, and all the legal fees that would come with either. that's some serious risk. you have to weight that with the risks presented

if someone in S LA decides to do a home invasion when they know damn near everyone has a gun, a dog, and zero fricks to give... they deserve whatever happens to them.

unfortunately, drug addiction is real and people break in to steal stuff from neighbors to fund it all the time.

The Vader household loves those revolvers

No school like old school. She's got her .38 and I've got my .44. The best two things about them

1. Almost zero chance of jamming
2. High probability of debilitation with the first shot.

Just day before yesterday we all (kids included) went to the range and shot through 150 rounds in each.

If you do shoot them in the back, right before you call the police, turn them over to where they are laying face up and shoot them again in the front. Problem solved......

Just make sure to turn them back over when you're done.

That's a very grey area.

As I understand it, it's a legal shoot if they are attempting to gain entry. It is, however, a much more difficult fight in court.

True.

I like 18 rds vs 5 or 6, though.

Not necessarily. I got a loaded gun in every room and won't hesitate to kill. Fuggum, .... but if I get a gun pointed at them with safe space between us I will give fair warning before blowing their shite away.

It is impossible to make a simple statement that I would kill but I am trained and ready to do so.

If I hear them jimmying the door, I will chamber a shell in the old 12 gauge and warn them. That sound of the chambering of a round is translatable in any language.

If they are already in the house, yeah I'm shooting at them. Don't mess with the Hogwarts family.

There's valid arguments to be made both ways. With semi-autos you trade off reliability and power for more shots and a faster reload. With revolvers you trade off more shots and faster reload (although I'm pretty good with my speed loader) for more power and less chance of stoppage.

My .44 has 5 shots. So you can choose to try and bring them down with 5 of these...

Or about a dozen of these...

No plug. Alternate buckshot and slugs. If I need anything else I have a desert eagle. But preferred home defense is always my 12 gauge.

Without hesitation. You don't mess around when the safety of your wife and kids are concerned.
You also don't want to give some POS the opportunity to lie in court, criminal or civil. In this fricked up country, you'd probably get sued and have to pay the person who broke into your house.

I've shot thousands of rounds through my Glock without a jam and projectile tech these days is far superior to that of even 10 years ago. Hell, even the FBI is going back to 9mm. I don't trust myself to be dead accurate during the adrenaline rush of an engagement so the more rounds the better.
