The response to this thread has been bizarre. Some of you people are such miserable assholes.

I saw a lot of players praying the other night. I haven't seen anyone mock them yet. I wonder why?

Please post this on the religious board

This isn’t a gotcha. The existence of God and science is not mutually exclusive, nor are they at odds.

I had no idea all the atheists on the board hang out together at the same time.

This thread is so fricking weird.

Y’all member when this football player that makes a ton of money set up a gofundme for $2500 to give kids toys instead of just giving the $2500 himself

The most prayed over thing in this country is lottery tickets. Not sick kids. Open your eyes.

Why does prayer not work for children dying of cancer?

They’re not professional athletes

Sometimes God performs miracles, sometimes he uses humans and guides them in their work. It's not either/or.

I want no part of a God who heals people based on how many anonymous prayers he or she receives. Some young kid with cancer deserves to die because he/she is not famous and therefore gets less prayers?

According to the left, any "thoughts and prayers" from those dastardly Christians is something to mock.

Think and pray all you want. At least know that your prayers have absolutely nothing to do with a person living or dying.

This is actually a very very deep question with a ton of nuance. First, we have to establish agreed upon terminology. Do we define prayer “working” in the context of the OP as the cancer going into remission? Do we define prayer “working” as a longer span of time than initially prognosticated at diagnosis?

We of course know that human beings cannot pray away death. It’s part of this fallen world and every living creature, even children are subject to mortality. Could prayer still work in the sense of peace and emotional healing being brought to a grieving family?

I believe, unfortunately, that we clearly can observe that every human being has a time stamp that we cannot evade. We can, however, focus on the eternal future which is promised to be exponentially better and longer than the life we experience here.

TL:DR- prayer working or not working is really a matter of the perspective in which you approach the circumstance.

Good to hear he is doing better.

Hopefully he makes a full recovery and returns to the game of football.
