All heat strips are rusted. If you are straight electric heat you might be taken for a ride. Its only the blower and the heat strips (plus contactor, sequencer, and hi temp cutoff). Most 5-15kw heat strips are in the hundreds of dollars range and readily available. And its a 10 minute job.

Grinder with diamond blade. Have someone use a spray bottle and hit it with a nice stream for dust control.

If using a transition you will be fine just mark a line with straight edge. Mark diamond blade with a sharpie at 1/2” for your depth control.

If no transition and you need a clean line then use alcohol to clean floor and hot glue a strip of hardwood for your line/straight edge. Run diamond blade along that.

Either way this is a 5 or less minute job.
