I just got a Date just 41 with Wimbledon dial and white gold bezel. It’s a great dress watch imo

$10,000 to spend on a watch, which one and why?
I'd go skiing in Banff for a couple of nice weeks, and pick up a Timex while I was there.

I like the JLC MUT Moon in that price range.
I was going to say JLC Polaris chrono but I'm pretty boring

I’m not a flashy person and it would be more for dress and not sport. I prefer something low key and simple. I’m fine with a Rolex and have been thinking about a Milgauss. But, I know little about watches and was wondering if there were other brands I should be checking out.
I've always worn a watch. Got tired of replacing watches.
Bought a Rolex Datejust. SS with Gold trim. Technically it is a dress watch, but I never take it off. I just spent a week in Costa Rica (Fishing, swimming, riding waterfalls, ATVs, etc...) then 2 days fishing (offshore and inshore). It never comes off. I feel naked without it.
I've had it about 13 years now. Will never own another (unless I lose it).
Get you a Rolex, shop around and find a good price. You will not need to spend $10,000.

I’m liking the IWC Portuguese Chronograph for a possible addition..

$10,000 to spend on a watch, which one and why? Thinking about a new watch and need some suggestions on ones that are nice and will retain their value.
Step 1) Don't look at it as an investment.
Step 2) Lurk on /r/watches and other online watch communities. Start learning the lingo, start getting a feel for what you like and what you don't like. There's nothing wrong with Rolex - but you might get a lot more enjoyment (and save a ton of money) by starting off with something like a Omega Speedy.

Well yeah you can have both but if you're actually spending 10 thousand dollars on something super nice. Spend it on something that will be noticed.
I don't know about you or anyone else but if you're wearing a 10 thousand dollar watch, I'm not noticing that. But if you're consistently wearing nice, well tailored suits, I'll notice.
No I'm not gay as far as you know.

Get a Doxa or a Sinn, save $4000-$6000 and still have something cooler and that no one you know has.

That assumes that being noticed is your primary objective. With watches for them to be noticed they kinda have to be loud. I will get 10 times the comments on a cheap Hamilton on an orange strap than a Patak, VC, AP or Lange.
That said clothing is transitory where a watch can be an heirloom as the OP mentioned he wanted.

I would hope not.
Well done. Upvote forthwith.

Citizen! It charges off the ambient light. Keeps great time.
I owned a Rolex several years ago. It lost a few seconds every day.
Do they still use the antique self winding system that earned their reputation of being a "fine time Piece"?

I have the Citizen Blue Angels Eco and love it. It was gift though. I wouldn’t spend much more than that for a watch.

Omega Speedy.
I think this is the choice for anyone willing to spend $5K, but I would only get one with a sapphire crystal.
Under $2K, the Marathon
