If intelligence is hereditary, are you retarding your child by marrying dumb?

Say you could find someone with an IQ of 145, but you chose the guns/rack of a 100 IQer, haven't you basically caused brain damage to your future child?

quote:

Researchers have previously shown that a person's IQ is highly influenced by genetic factors, and have even identified certain genes that play a role. They've also shown that performance in school has genetic factors.

Are you dating or have you married the smartest person you could?

do you ever hear people say, "Oh your kids will be so intelligent"? I don't think people realize implications of flippant dating.

My wife has made straight A's her whole life.

She has zero common sense about some shite, but I think that's just a gender thing

If this board is any indication, it's far more important to be attractive than intelligent. If you're a woman, at least. So marry hot.

So this thread is really for her, then. It's o.k. It's not your fault that you misunderstood.

It was really hard finding someone who was both hotter and smarter than me. So I chose beauty over brains. I am smart enough to teach/manipulate her in to making sound and practical decisions.

While some kids are gifted with intelligence, a good portion of the students actual intelligence comes from if the parents study with/make their kids take school seriously. I've seen so many of my friends who make 30+ on the ACT become instantly stupid by not caring about school and taking other paths in life.

Future children's intelligence is far down the list of things to consider when considering a lifetime companion. Guns/racks should be down the list, too.

I have a college degree and a tested IQ of 136. My wife is way smarter than me. It shows in how intelligent my daughter is at 1. My 5 year old, whom I had with my ex, is not dumb but just average. He did get mine and my dads physical traits, kid is gonna be a heck of an athlete. Daughter got them too, she's just gonna be smart too lol.

Same, and intelligence is something that I really valued while dating.

It doesn't hurt to be both

If athleticism is hereditary, are you weakening your child by marrying someone weak or nonathletic?

If good looks are hereditary, are you disfiguring your child by marrying someone unattractive?

Ideally, we all want to marry the most intelligent, attractive, and healthy individual we can. In actuality, most of us wind up settling for 'close enough'. Therefore, the offspring aren't so much an improvement of the bloodline as much as they are a further continuation of average or mediocre.

I married a 5'7" athlete. I'm smart enough for a couple generations of 'down breeding' in that aspect. The wife's got Keiland calves...should make up for my general pencil-head build.
