PE is wild. They own a few big companies in Denver and they buyout the small ones and just absorb them. You can get three different quotes from three different companies all owned by the same private equity firm and not even know it. This is how they win.

The pro-trades and anti-education crowd are clueless. They are akin to politicians who are war hawks who never gave the military a thought when they were young but all about starting wars and shite when they’re seeking votes. Neither has a clue what they’re talking about. All you gotta do is go somewhere where trades people are working in sizeable numbers. Most will be less than 40 years old. Almost none will be 50+ years old and not in management. It’s a young man’s game and a young man better have and exit strategy other than going into business or management because only about 1 in 10,000 succeed in business and only about 1 in 1000 successfully transition to management. The trades need Indians, not Indian chiefs. They’re will be about 70,000 IBEW apprentice electricians hired around September next year. By September of 2027 about half will remain. By 2037 about half of those will remain in the trade. By 2047 about half will remain. By 2057 there will be around 5000 left. The other 65,000 will be somewhere around 10-20 years from full retirement age. This is why no one should go into a trade with the idea that it’s a lifelong career…it’s not except for a very small number of people.

Mike Rowe is a carnival huckster and a failed opera singer. Dude has NEVER worked a day in his life yet goes around vilifying education and promoting trades as if he has some insight. He doesn’t. He ought to ashamed of himself.

OP, the grass is always greener. For the most part you don't have to deal with people.

I get it man. I’m a super for a construction company. Didn’t finish college but make around 200k a year due to having a killer work ethic.
It’s an insanely difficult way to earn a living. I went to trade school and college simultaneously while working as much OT as I could and sidelining as much as possible. I’ve earned 6 figures a year for the last 20 years. I was one of 160 apprentices hired the year I was accepted….tgere are 5 of us left still working in some capacity in the trade. It’s a young man’s game.

Oh you fricked up now…every guy on here that works white collar making 80-90k is going to tell you how your job is so much better
Yet they have never done a day of hard labor in their life and have no clue

No man…the OT said crawling under a house in August in the mud around midnight is glorious and way better than getting an education
And didn’t you know…according to the Ot every electrician and plumber they know owns the business and is a multi millionaire so everyone must be able to do that
Honestly I have given up trying to discourage it at this point, encourage all the white collar guys of the OT to send their kid into the trades, less competition for our kids.

Bottom line… you have to have a killer work ethic to succeed in trades.
quote:this is retarded and you’re too retarded to notice it.
I’ve had to do 16 hour days, 7 days a week. My record is 57 days of work in a row. Mostly at least 14 hour days. The last time I called in sick was 2005.
Sorry you work for a shite company.
Shouldn’t be breaking news but guess what it take a good work ethic to stand out and succeed in any industry.
There is a lot of money to be made in the trades for someone that is competent. Honest. Not scared to work. Dependable.
I’d never want a guy on a project that says he is working 16 hour day. And no one respects that guy as a leader.

If I was a tradesman, I would be on my own. Everyone I deal with is self employed and does very well.
Oh you would? You realize it takes 4-5 years before you can go on your own right?

It's all fun and games until you get too old to easily handle plumbing/electrical/HVAC stuff without pain.

Actually all the hours I worked really paid off. I earned my worth and moved up the ladder into management. I didn’t have kids then so it didn’t bother me. I’ve never been scared to work.
Now I’m salary and I’m home for dinner 99% of the time. They only use me when they need me. In fact, I’ve only worked 5 days since Thanksgiving, but I still get paid my full salary. I’m sort of like a consultant for the next 4 months because of weather.
It’s not a shite company, they treat me great. Nice salary, paid medical, $700 monthly truck allowance, company truck to take home, great 401k match, free use of their suite for concerts/pro sports, last year took me on a week long deep sea fishing trip on a yacht in Key West. I could go on.
You see, while guys like you are scared to do a 16 hour work day, guys like me go out there and get the job done no matter how long or what it takes. You are the 90% that wouldn’t survive in my industry because you would expect the company to give the rewards before you’ve earned them.
Actually I’m very respected by my coworkers. Everyone requests to be on my crews or be one of my main guys. I lead by example and I preach that ,”nobody is too good to do anything at our company”.
That’s why I choose to still be involved in the physical labor, even though I’m not required to do it. People respect seeing the guy in charge of the operation using a shovel and helping the lowest level guy achieve a task.
The fact that you're scared of a 16 hour day, and don’t respect a leader doing so, tells me something about you. In my line of work, we call that being a pussy.

I think you’re confused, its more like 4 months, and I consult during that period.
Well yes, I do think highly of myself. Anyone that has worked their butt off to achieve success should.
Isn’t this the OT? Where people brag about their butlers social status?
