Are u licensed
Yes. And this doesn't matter as much as people believe. I ran a service van for a company for three years unlicensed. As long as the owner or someone at the company has a master's license, the workers don't have to have one.

I would think new construction plumbing wouldn’t be all that bad, but I’m sure it’s a tough job dealing with other stuff.
Some guys have the mentality for new construction. Im not a fan. I would rather troubleshoot something different everyday and do service work. Each to his own though.
I only deal with the poo maybe twice a month.

Are office workers really talking about how they wished they were in the trades?
Yes. I guess it can be emasculating to be a man and not do a manly job. IDK, is it?

Your reading comprehension is terrible. I'm speaking about the office guys that long for the days out in the field doing a trade.

I get it man. I’m a super for a construction company. Didn’t finish college but make around 200k a year due to having a killer work ethic.
Only about 10% of people are mentally able to do a majority of trades work. And it’s getting worse every year. Only around 5% are the real deal.
I’ve had to do 16 hour days, 7 days a week. My record is 57 days of work in a row. Mostly at least 14 hour days. The last time I called in sick was 2005.
People thinking that trade school will make you a bunch of easy money are in for a huge surprise. It opens the door, but you still have to be a badass to achieve it.
Many pencil pushers these days say, “I should have went to trade school”. Many of them don’t understand what that truly means.
They shouldn’t, many can’t. Unless they have the mentality to be able to be knee deep in others people shite, spending weeks in 20 degree temperatures with a shovel in hand, or many other uncomfortable situations, they should stick to pushing pencils.
In my line of work… we praise the strong, attack the weak to do better, and destroy the lazy. The disgruntled can contact HR, because they’ll probably fire you.
Bottom line… you have to have a killer work ethic to succeed in trades.

You should be making bank. If not, the problem is you.

You may be in the wrong market. I met two young guys that own a plumbing (And) in Tampa. We met having late liquid lunch at local watering hole. They were talking about how all hipsters that have invaded Tampa don't own a plunger and can't unstop their condo toilets. $250 for 5 mins work. $325 to change guts in a standard toilet. $500 to change out a garbage disposal. I'm sure there are shitty jobs, too, but they were making mint.

On top of all that, trades companies are being bought up by private equity and becoming unbearable.
This is the most idiotic thing I have heard in a while - you are full of shite. I don't know many painting, glass, windows, general contracting, HVAC, roofers, electrical, plumbing, etc getting bought out by anyone and I have been in this entire industry for over 30 years
This is a made up fabrication by you because it's simply not even close to being true.

I'm a plumber. There is nothing glamorous about it. Nasty work, long hours, dealing with the weather, HARD physical work. Zero benefits, no retirement no health insurance, nothing. My body has aged well past its years at this point.
On top of all that, trades companies are being bought up by private equity and becoming unbearable.
So next time office fig, keep your trap shut and keep pushing paper cause the grass ain't greener on the other side.
Now, go flush the condensate line on the ice cream machine so. we can have some ice cream.

What planet are you on?
PE's general game plan is to run off the "high" paid senior workers and hire kids out of highschool. They still bill out the same to the customer of course.

The trades are hard work. All of my kids chose trade careers, in part because they were repulsed by watching me spend my days on white-collar calls listening to people complain, posture, and kiss arse. They wanted real work, which they got plus some.
They are strong, hardworking people, but the trades are physically demanding, and that reality can’t be ignored. Over time, the work takes a toll on your body, which means you have to think ahead. Long term success often depends on planning for the next phase - whether that’s business ownership, supervision, estimating, or other roles that rely more on experience and judgment than pure physical labor.

I’m sure blue-collar fields have absolutely no people complaining, posturing, or kissing arse, right?
