If I slapped a “return to sender” sticker on every piece of junk mail I get, think these companies would take a hint and take me off their mailing lists?

No, that wouldn't work. I have a good, heavy-duty paper shredder and all junk mail and credit card offers go through it. It's a 20-gallon capacity P5 micro-cut so it takes a good while to fill it up. Could also just put it a bag and burn it all later which I did when I had a fire pit in my backyard.

Nope. It will never get sent back to them if it’s third class standard mail. It gets recycled.

Just start sending them random letters about random things in your life, but make copies and send a ton a month.

If it has a self addressed stamped envelope, stuff as much as will fit seal it and mail it back to them and they get to pay for it.

The post office won't return presorted standard rate junk mail. It'll just go to dead mail.
If it says first class they will.

Most bulk mail is not returnable. Post office would simply throw it away.

I save mine in Walmart bags in my trunk. When I’m stopped by a police officer I give the bags to him. They are required by law to take them.

So things that were produced and mailed in bulk you feel the need to shred? I dont understand, the info on them is available to anyone interested.

no dont do that, just write "wrong address" and nothing else, then stick it back in the mailbox, and then it gets returned to them at their cost costing them twice to mail it. THIS WORKS

it takes a bit at first, but then they take you off the mailing list ad a bad address

this only works with envelope mail though, campaign BS and post card type junk you have no way to stop since if its undeliverable, it goes straight to the recycled trash bin

i used to get one or two every day, now i get maybe one a month at the most

To clear up a couple of misconceptions, the term “presort” has nothing to do with a class of mail. Also, standard mail (which the public often refers to as junk mail) does get returned to sender if it has a “Return Service Requested” endorsement. If it has Address Service Requested, Change Service Requested or Electronic Service Requested, we notify the sender that your mail piece has been refused. Some companies will for whatever reason just choose to not remove your name or address from their mailing list, no matter how many times you request them to. In my 28 years as a USPS clerk, Spectrum (tv and internet) has the worst mailing list I deal with. Approximately 1,000 of their standard envelopes that come into my office each month have bad addresses with no endorsement and get sent to the plant for shredding.

Junk mail is what is keeping the price of stamps from going even higher.

One of my credit card companies used to send me checks that I could write against the CC account. I called and told them that in the future I’d leave their blank checks in the street for a lucky stranger to find and use.

I stopped getting them.
