Well it's been a crazy few days but we are good here in Sarasota. We are really lucky as we came away with virtually no damage. A small part of our fence fell, and maybe 8-10 feet of flashing came off, but that's it. Roof and pool cage in good condition.
Just in our neighborhood alone there were so many trees down. Multiple people lost a lot of shingles, we know of at least 2 that had their pool cage destroyed. Myself and neighbors were cutting downed trees so I and other people could leave.
We are more in between central and north Sarasota and the damage in Southern Sarasota and further down is absolutely insane.
We got power back just about an hour ago, no internet but we feel very fortunate. Over half the county here still without power.
I went in to the hospital yesterday and today, and it has been crazy. So many people coming for Fort Meyers, Cape Coral and more as all the hospitals down there are pretty much unavailable.
All in all we came out very fortunate, but this area will be recovering for a very long time. Thanks again for everyone who posted updates, thoughts and prayers.

I think Liz may be the only one we haven't heard from of the posters we knew were in the worst areas.
She has been on the bookface, pretty sure they just lost power.

Does anyone have a way to see storm surge in real time? Particularly looking for Isle of Palms marina near Charleston. Thanks in advance.

Surge coming in fast at Myrtle Beach. This trend is lagging behind in time. Gauge is now at 10.06 feet and still rising.
It is now 4.43 feet above normal astronomical tide.
Surge just past high tide is making things worse for overall water level.

Just had a reported gust here of 51. Already got 1.84 inches of rain and expected to get another 2-3 inches

IS there one of these in the area of Isle of Palms or Sullivan's Island or Mount Pleasant?

The closest one to there is Charleston harbor and it is only 1 foot above astronomical tide. The winds there are out of the NW.

Wrightsville beach about 30 mins ago. About 1 hour past high tide. Looks like the storm will hit on the falling tide. Based on being here this week I'm guessing a 5-6 foot storm surge here.

The gauge there is showing 3.5 feet above astronomical tide but with the waves added, the water can be reaching a little higher.

Not a bad estimate.
Looks like the highest surge was down near Myrtle Beach at about 5.5 feet above normal tide.
That is the third highest ever after Hurricanes Hugo and Matthew at that gauge.

The WindJammer, a beach-front bar on Isle of Palms is hosting a Hurricane Party from 4 to 10 with live music, happy hour drink prices, and half price burgers. It seems most Charlestonians are more concerned about how this is going to frick up the rest of the recreational shrimping season.
