Moved into my present house about 4 years ago first thing I looked at was our backyard not one pine tree. My last house the backyard was lined with pine trees and while Hurricane Matthew was passing by I remember looking up and watching the pines swaying and waiting for one of those things to snap. My butt was puckered the whole time. Watching the winds outside now and watching those palm trees swing brings a smile to my face in a good way.

ETA: Desantis giving updates now

Desantis just said that Lee and Charlotte county are basically completely off the grid.

Making it sound like it will take some time to get power back up in Lee County cause they said lots of things have to actually be rebuilt and not just lines reattached.

HWRF which nailed Ian’s intensity so far showing 975mb at South Carolina landfall. That’s a solid Cat 1 borderline 2.

I hate this storm it needs to die

I am sure we will get some good drone footage today and see the magnitude of what Ian did to this area. It will not be pretty.

Sometimes the plan is to let the cars flood and collect insurance money. Or it could be like the post from some woman in twitter whose car was floating down the street. People asked her why she didn’t get it away from there when everybody knew it was going to flood. She told them she had it closed up in the garage, but the floodwater broke apart the garage like the garage door was going to protect it from water
