Tampa is still going to get tropical storm force winds, so power outages likely. Along with a bunch of rain as well. It's not like it's going to be a trip to Disney Worl....oh wait a minute.

People are worried about flooding and storm surge but they are underestimating the amount of trees that are going to cause a ton of problems.

You should seen Panama City after Michael....I've never seen any aftermath with the trees like that ever in my life....This will be much worse.

BR after Gustav is a great example of that. There were articles written about that phenomenon.

Yeah, according to him, he believes his house will be able to withstand the wind and even the excessive rain based on where he is. But the storm surge is the one thing that will wipe him out.

The shift is the difference in losing his house if it come straight up through the bay (which earlier today, I think the eye was passing almost directly over him), to just having a miserable storm and aftermath.

Neither are good, just one is catastrophic.

Yeah, it was insane. Some of the craziest storm damage I've ever seen. Its still very noticeable around those parts. If it is worse than that...sheesh.

Tell him the 5-6 hours of relentless 130 mph wind non stop will cause him to have PTSD for the rest of his life.

BR during Gustav gust to just over 90mph, winds in the upper 60s
and there was a ton of tree damage.

A 60 mph wind is nothing to laugh at.

Why do you think its going to be worse than Michael from a wind perspective? Wasn't Michael a 5?

Have your friend plug his address into this and see what the surge can do to him.

Well that won't happen if landfall is Port Charlotte to Fort Meyers.

But yeah, if it comes on at Tampa, I'm pushing him to get out. This morning, he said the interstate was a parking lot and he couldn't chance getting stuck there and possibly running out of gas. But people on here are saying that 6-8 hours before landfall is a good time to haul arse.

I had to drive Tallahassee for work several times after Michael, and basically from about Bonifay to Greensboro on I-10 there were just entire forests snapped in half. It looked like F5 tornado damage for miles and miles.
