New @NHC_Atlantic forecast update for Hurricane #Ian didn't get any better for the Tampa area. Hurricane Warning now up for parts of central Florida coastline. Up to 10 foot storm surge inundation forecast. Take coastal evacuation orders seriously!

This run would push a lot of water into literally the worst possible place in the country.
This is getting serious.
This is getting serious.

yeah his scenario reminds me of mine during Katrina.
dad was going to stay with us kids because mom was forced to work at the hospital in NO.
Left at the last possible moment without my mom. Didnt hear from her for about a week.
I would recommend that the dude leave. Wife is probably in a much better position than my mom was in NO. Shes safer there than he is at his house.

From the people living where I do, they rarely lose power. Some of them have been here 25 years and said they cant remember ever losing power longer than a few hours during storms. I hope that continues

Yea I was watching a clip of Tampa nightly news last night and the weather guy said something to the effect of “now look we are all hurricane veterans we know this drill.”
I hate to say it, but I’m not sure that’s true for most of the Tampa Bay Area. If this thing plays out as currently forecasted I don’t think anyone really know what is going to happen from a power and flooding perspective.

Yeah, the geography can't get any worse for Ian's current approach.

Yeah, if that GFS verifies, you have multiple issues for Tampa to deal with:
1. They have trees that would have limbs dropping all over, like Baton Rouge did for Gustav. BR hadn't had a good tree cleaning storm in forever.
2. Storm surge at 10 feet with oil and gas in the bay could be a huge environmental issue.
3. 10-12" of rain would flood the hell out of that area, along with the storm surge pushing in two days in advance of landfall.
4. Wind damage might be the least of that area's issues, but if it's a 3 or higher, yikes.

Slidell.
Bay St. Louis/Slidell are absolutely terrible too. It's like dropping a rock in a rectangular tank. The highest wave points will be at the corners. Bay St. Louis and Slidell are in a corner.

quote:according to the official cone they get 24+ hours of hurricane conditions (thats two high tides at least, maybe three)

The fact that it costs $350 is OT appropriate

Tampa is the city that is the most vulnerable to surge in the country.
I wouldn't have guessed it until a couple hours ago when I started doing some reading. NOLA is number two......well....yeah, it fits.
