Hwy 12 was closed too (DOTD still shows closed) but 190 in Merryville is supposedly back open.

Well do not stop at the Burger King. They couldn't get it together during normal business operations. The worst BK I've ever been in and boy that is saying something.

12 to 90 would be better than 190 no? Is 12 open?

Bad news...I just saw a post on FB about barges that broke free and severely damaged a bridge section near San Jacinto.(both directions)
Last time that happened, it was closed 3 months with way less damage....
Sorry, Facebook link, all I got

I left Mont Belvieu headed back to Louisiana at 6:30pm on Wednesday and the drive to the state line was the worst and scariest conditions I’ve ever driven through.
I was glued to the wheel.
The damn 18-wheelers were driving 60+mph, bunches up together, and there was a shite ton of them.

So are these companies liable for damage?
I havent heard if the company ever paid up for wrecking the sunshine bridge

That bridge is going to be closed for a long time...I just just saw some drone footage and the piles under the bridge are severely damaged.

I guess that would fall on the insurers of the barge, and the company it was working for, and possibly the tug owner....I have no clue

Those are Canal Barge barges...but they broke free from the fleet...so if it was Kirby's fleet then they would probably be responsible. Just depends on whos fleet they broke free from. What makes it worse is those barges are loaded...

Hey!!! My little hidden gem hasn’t seen this much traffic since the Rita evacuation. It’s a clusterfrick.

Also. To add insult to injury 2-10 in LC was closed this morning. Not sure if it’s opened back up yet. I would think the fastest route would be 171 to Deridder and cross the line there.

So how do you keep the barges from breaking away/whatever it’s called? Serious question. Or is it “an act God” and they don’t get fully blamed unless they weren’t tied/stored properly?? Surely they weren’t in operation at that point right??

I ended up taking sulphur to Jasper to Livingston to Conroe to Woodlands then onto 99 to get home.

The barges that broke free where loaded and being stored in a fleet. The are "tied" together with wires, cables and large ratchets. There is usually a fleet boat that's standing by just in case something like this happens...but that water was moving too fast and a loaded barge moving that fast is like a freight train coming at you. No little tug boat was going to stop that barge.
They are stored in a fleet like this waiting to either be loaded or unloaded at the plant
These are hopper barges waiting to be loaded at a grain elevator, the barge that hit the bridge in Houston are tank barges waiting to loaded or unloaded at a plant but same concept

I work with a lot of marine insurance. That's not an act of God. The liability insurers of those barges are going to pay. First they will go after the P&I and if they tap those limits they'll chase the MGL policy.

No one should go this way. Nothing to see up here.
