"who put a chinaman in my office?" is something I've always wanted to say

Chinaman

Madison Avenue killed my grandfather.

Smoking inside would be disgusting though. I'm down for everything from Mad Men except that.

The thing about that is no one realized how bad it smelled because almost everyone smoked, and those who didn’t smoke were so used to being around it they didn’t notice either.

There are no attractive women on my floor. And my last job was all remote, where whiskey for breakfast was an option.

Sure, but if my office all of a sudden had everyone chainsmoking in it I'd notice. I've tasted the clean air life, can't go back to the 80s of having smoking sections in restaurants separated by a 3ft tall partition

And this is coming from a guy that isn't scared of a drunken cigarette with the boys every once in a while.

Just chillin', lighting a smoke every hour or so right at the desk.

Back in the office days I always wore dress slacks, long sleeve button down shirt and sport coat. Comfortable and looked sharp.
Had to wear full suit and tie in prior jobs and that was a but more aggravating but looked and felt nice.

50s, 60s - even some of the 70s were terrific. Heads and tails superior to today's silliness and foolishness. Despite its imperfections it WAS a better time.

Whiskey for breakfast. Extracurriculars with the staff not only tolerated, but encouraged. Maybe some guy hangs himself in his office. No HR feminazis patrolling the hall, policing your every word and move.

Good times.

You forgot to mention being able to smoke like a chimney all day.

When I was hired by a large company in the early 70s it was a regular Peyton Place (youngsters please google that) around there. It was hands off certain women there because the upper level managers/execs were not sharing.

I can testify to this. My first job out of college in 1982 was as an engineer in a factory setting with 10,000 employees. I was a free for all.

People in the shop area had designated smoking areas, but in the office you could smoke at your desk. I never saw anyone drinking, but I knew they had liquor on the executive floor.

Execs were fricking all the hot secretaries. Union leaders were fricking all he hot shop gals.

The union guys would set up the junior managers with some hot gal in a hotel and take pictures. That gave them the upper hand in contract negotiations.

We moved into my grandfather's office when he retired. Plenty of pipes, cigar ash trays, and chairs in that weird orange and yellow that matches the wallpaper. We still have all of the 1985 Playboys that were delivered to the office in a cabinet.

Me and MRTigerFan worked for my grandfather our senior year and every day at 9 and 3 the entire staff would get together in the conference room to have coffee and bullshite.

I remember when they first outlawed smoking in our office facility.

They took one manager office, glassed it in and provided separate ventilation. That was the designated smoking area. Probably about 8 feet wide and 10 feet deep.

I remember walking past and looking in the window. The smoke was so thick you could barely see the people.
