re: I think this dashcam video pretty much sums up driving in Baton Rouge

Lexus pulled out in front of dashcam guy. Both should have seen the other in time. Lexus was legal until that point although unwise. Video makes it tough to tell but snapshot puts dashcam dude technically right.

I've avoided countless wrecks like this. The person in the Lexus is the catalyst but you have to be able to recognize shite like that ahead of time and prepare accordingly. You can see the Lexus creeping it's way through traffic up ahead, which is a huge red flag. That's when you should immediately start approaching with caution. Then it looked like he still had time to adjust after the Lexus stuck it's nose out and he never did.
Avoidable accident but primary fault with the a-hole cutting across traffic into a turn lane where they can't see.
If you just assume drivers around you know the rules or have any intent on following the rules of the road you are destined for disaster. Especially in the frickery that is Baton Rouge.

Is he only technically right? Any guesses on the fault sharing?

Also, the Lexus appeared to be planning on heading left out of the parking lot after crossing at 90 degrees 5 lanes of oncoming traffic.
Because just turning right and u-turning somewhere up ahead instead of barging through traffic for your own convenience was just too inconceivable.
This is the shite that pisses me off most when driving. Inconsiderate douchebags who willfully inconvenience other drivers and take dangerous actions because it might save them a little time.

He sounded like Peter Griffith. "Ahhhhh.....frick. Ahhhhhh.frick."
Both dumbasses.

While the guy in the SUV is in the wrong, as others have stated, the guy with the dash-cam has ZERO situational awareness. If he would have been paying attention at all, he would've noticed the SUV trying to cross as the video shows. Not only could he have slowed down, there was actual time to cut to his left a little bit and avoid the nose of the Lexus all together. Of course the person in the Lexus should have not been crossing into traffic in such a manner as well.
Good drivers avoid situations and wrecks like that by scanning ahead and paying attention. I've avoided many accidents by seeing them before they happen.
Sadly too many people now drive like both the SUV driver and the dash cam driver in the video. They just drive and don't pay attention to anything happening on the road.

I'll never understand how some people would rather risk their lives and the lives of others when they could just turn right, get to the nearest stoplight, then turn around.
Well now you're bringing common sense into play here, and there isn't a lot of that going on with the drivers we have here in BR

You are a moron. This is 100% fault of the Lexus driver. I do this shite all day every day and a left turning motorist is presumed to be at fault.

Yeah they were pulling out and praying, didn't work.

It's the Lexus fault but the guy was in a POS car. Gonna be able to get nicer car with his insurance check

Guy was really torn up over the damage to his POS 16 year old car
